Introducing new clown fish

Hey guys,

My tank is wrapping up fallow in may. One of my two clowns passed in the process leaving only one. I plan on getting a new pair but I'm concerned of the kind of welcome they'll receive e from mine. I've had it for over 1.5 years so he is kind of grown up.

Since the newcomers are two, would that be ok?

Every time I've tried to grow three clowns up together...one always ends up getting beaten up and I have to remove it before it gets killed. If you want a pair get a smaller one and introduce it to the one you have now and let them form their own bond...or get rid of the one you have now and get a pair of clowns that have already bonded.

You'll want the opposite sex too if you know what your remaining clown is.

That's not too hard to figure out with clowns...typically the smaller is a male and the larger female. But once there is no longer a dominant female in the tank, the male will start to transition to the female. There's a lot more science that goes into it, but just keeping it simple.

Your safest bet, as was stated above, is to get a smaller clown than what you currently have and pair them up. Or get rid of the current clown and buy a bonded pair.

If it’s a male, it will change to female
If it’s a female, it will be much larger.
Get a small 3/4” same species same colour pattern
But I agree, not two

Thank you all! Hard to part ways with it as he was the first fish in my tank but I wanted to add a diff specie. It seems I have some decisions to make:)
