Introduction and request for opinions....

Hello everyone my name is Jordan. I have lurked around for some time on the springfield forum since moving back here but never formally introduced myself. Actually, I purchased fish and live rock from Shaar in early august. Everything is still doing wonderful except the blue tang. He has stopped eating and swimming but is alive. He sits in one place moving his fins as normal. Anyway Ive never encountered anything like this. Could this be a bacterial infection? Ive never delt with any kind of parasite, so I have no idea!? I have quarintined him but do not know where to go from here.... Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Also, I would love to join "the club" whenever the next meeting is held! Of course I was out of town on the frag swap.

Hi Jordan - sorry to hear about your tang. How is his respiration? Any other signs - white or black spots on the body and/or fins? Also, what have you tried feeding him?

Ozarksreef> No spots of any kind. He did develop ich but it went away. (At least the signs of it) That has been two months ago. This just happened out of no where!
Foods I feed: When I recieved him the only thing fed to him was: Ocean nutrition prime reef flake> I was told this was it always besides some nori.
Since I have varied his diet w/ the flake and nori
Julian sprungs red and purple sea veggies
ocean nut. formula 2 pellets
hikari marine algae (frozen)
hikari marine pellets type-A
hikari marine -S-
and ocean seaweed selects
on top of this all foods are soaked in garlic but no vitamins
Pretty varied> should have left his diet alone> LOL
Any and all opinions welcome!!!!!

Jordan - I wonder about getting some live food in there for him to start eating again (live brine shrimp nauplii). If you can get him to take those, then try frozen brine or mysis soaked in garlic or selcon. The regal tang is more inclined to meaty foods then the rest of the tang family, so this might get him going again.

Is respiration normal or rapid? The listlessness is not a good sign - if it's combined with a rapid respiration, I'd be inclined to think you're dealing with a parasite and should be treating. But without any other symptoms (flashing, fast respiration), it's hard to say.

I like the live brine shrimp ideal. Anyway to enrich them? I will pick some up and let you know.
Respiration is normal. He moves his fins at a normal pace and breathes as usual. Just no movement or eating. Any ideals on what to treat him with for parasites? Couldn't hurt at this point!

Check the age of your food also. Sometimes it can go bad and make them lethargic. I have had great suceess with Pacific blues and they are normally pretty hardy (for me).

Live food like what Reef said may be a good thing. If you can find any some cyploss(sp) will work.
