Introduction

Seeing as I am now frequenting this board and have purchased a few items from somebody already, I feel an introduction is necessary.

My name is Bill. I have been living in the Pacific Northwest (Seattle) for the past 4 years (very expensive). I am currently serving in the military (Active Duty Coast Guard). I am now stationed in the St Louis area. I have seen and dived most of South East Asia (thank you CG). However, I must say, diving Tioman Island Malaysia has to be the best dive location on earth. Diving in Bali was all right however I felt there was too many people there.

I have been dealing with Salt water tanks since I was 15 yrs old. My father had a huge 320 ga custom made tank back when reef keeping was fairly new (early 80's).

I am currently setting up a 110 ga rr perfecto corner flow tank (thanks dad), a 75 ga live rock curing tank, and a 29 ga quarantine tank.

Welcome to SEASL and St. Louis Bill!!!

Even though I live in St. Louis, I have actually helped more people set up tanks from both the Puget Sound Aquarium Society and the Mid-Columbia Aquarium Club than I've had a chance to in St. Louis. If you were in the PSAS, we know many of the same people and you've probably seen some of the tanks I helped on and/or designed.

As far as I know, only one of the tanks has been published thus far but more will be in the future. Check out Mike's tank. http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2003-12/totm/index.php

Unfortunately I will be in S. Illinois this weekend for a wedding. However right after the wedding the groom (bride is not too happy about this) and I will be trying to build a DIY chiller. I will post more about this in another thread in a moment. However I would very much like to join SEASL.

Unfortunately, I was unable to take part in any Reef Society out in Seattle. While I was there I was stationed on the Coast Guard Cutter Mellon and was on a 3/3 deployment schedule. That means I was gone for 3 months and home for 3 months. However it seemed that it was never the case. When I first got there I was deployed for 6 months to SE Asia. We went to Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei, Philippines, and Guam. We were primarily a fisheries patrol vessel and counter Narco-Terrorism vessel. We would spend a great deal of time up in Alaska patrolling the Bearing Sea (regardless of the time of year) and the South Eastern Pacific looking for drug and human smugglers.


As you can see by the pic I am adding, you can see how far I was able to get with a reef tank. I just didn't have enough time to get anything started. The stand and canopy was hand built on the ship while I was underway. I eventually gave up and sold everything. Now that I am back on land, I can start my reef tank again. It has been a dream of mine for quite a long time. As I said before, my father was into reefs and I have been around them pretty much my whole life.
