The day has come

The day has come

OK....Here we go....we got alot done this evening and night.....A fellow reefer and friend came to help me. I have alot of pictures and a memory of my arms that got longer and longer hehehe.

Here is the second display tank....55mm hole for a 40mm bulkhead.

137877IMG_0246-med.jpg

Here is the carpenter...Kristian
He is preparing the wodden plate for both of the display tanks to sit on. It is 253cm x 51 cm

137877IMG_0256-med.jpg

I was a little bit paranoid when it came to measuring
137877IMG_0255-med.jpg

It is time to get the water out

It is time to get the water out

It is time to fill these 25liters cans with tankwater so that we can move the tank away from the wall

137877IMG_0257-med.jpg

Kristian is removing the sump

137877IMG_0258-med.jpg

oooooppppss ...this actually happend two times, water all over the floor , a good thing it was not a wood floor. hehe

137877IMG_0259-med.jpg

Kristian is measuring so that the first "beam" is in level

137877IMG_0260-med.jpg

The tank is half full now...I did not like to expose my corals to the cold air..not only one time but two times since we were going to fill it up while the bench was beeing made and then drain it again before we lifted it up to the bench again.

137877IMG_0261-med.jpg

You all have to exuse my english heheh

I am still nervous...

137877IMG_0262.jpg

This is how the tank looked two minutes before we lifted it up and carried it four meters away from the wall....It was very heavy. My yellow tang was unhappy with the waterlevel.

137877IMG_0263.jpg

It was time to fill the tank again with water....atleast so that the highest corals was covered.

137877IMG_0264.jpg

PAIN

137877IMG_0266.jpg

Well..the water is in the tank again and it is time to get to work

137877IMG_0268-med.jpg

Me smiling ...things are in level so far

137877IMG_0270-med.jpg

We are now ready for the bench

137877IMG_0271-med.jpg

The bench is beeing placed firmly

137877IMG_0273-med.jpg

It is time to place some stands

137877IMG_0275-med.jpg

We used 2" x 1" stands ...we doubled them so they are actually 4" x 1" some places.

137877IMG_0276-med.jpg

The temporary sump is in place. This tank will be housing a returnpump to the two 320 liters tanks later on.
.
137877IMG_0277-med.jpg

I am making a hole in the bench , it is for the pipework coming from the right tank.

137877IMG_0278-med.jpg

One hole done....we can now focus on the tank again.

137877IMG_0279-med.jpg

137877IMG_0280-med.jpg

Things have really gone really well so far.....a beer came out of the cooler by it self.

137877IMG_0282-med.jpg

Well ....we drained the tank again...no spilling on the floor this time hehe

137877IMG_0283-med.jpg

We have moved the tank into position...now it is just some heavy lifting that remains. I was worried because it wouldent be easy
to hit the hole in the bench with the bulkhead sticking out 3" from underneath the tank.

137877IMG_0284-med.jpg

YES !!!We did it....my arms really feels heavy at this point.
A beer with Kristians name on it came along as well.

137877IMG_0285-med.jpg

I have to put the pipe in place again so that we can fill the tank back up again. I really almost started filling it up without the pipe in place hehe

137877IMG_0287-med.jpg

It was a pain in the a## to get everything together again because of shells and stuff like that had grown on the pipe and fittings.
137877IMG_0289-med.jpg

This time it was alot more fun to refill the water because I did it in the sump

137877IMG_0290-med.jpg

The corals are again covered in water

137877IMG_0291-med.jpg

I used the oportunity to catch some **** floating around

137877IMG_0294-med.jpg

137877IMG_0292-med.jpg

137877IMG_0296-med.jpg

The clock is now 0200 in the night....Kristian is going to work in 5 hours heheh....and on top of it all....he is going to use his bicycle to get home....he is by far my neightbor.
137877IMG_0297-med.jpg

Thank you all for kind words.....I hope you enjoy....there will be alot of pictures.

Now it is time to consentrate on the second tank.....here you can see that I have installed and glued a chamber.

137877IMG_0301-med.jpg

The bulkhead..40mm

137877IMG_0303-med.jpg

I have made the second hole for the new tank

137877IMG_0311-med.jpg

Have a look at my beautifull light...really homemade 250w HQI.
I have also began to place the electric cords.

137877IMG_0316-med.jpg

I have started to think about the three tanks that is going to be used as sump (or what ever ??). I found out that the largest sump was leaking....I removed the old silikon and redid it.

137877IMG_0320-med.jpg

Here you can see that I have smeared all the aluminium in silikon.

137877IMG_0321-med.jpg

Here is some of the rock that is going to be used in the new display tank. The tank will then be used as a sump.

137877IMG_0322-med.jpg

I am starting to drill the holes for the connecting bulkheads in the tanks. I used a cheap ebay drillbit....I have drilled maybe about 15 holes and the bit is still going strong.

137877IMG_0327-med.jpg

I had to practice a little bit first

137877IMG_0330.jpg

Keep it coming.

ok....

ok....

Thanks for the tip....and yes....to stand in rain and storm drilling holes in tanks for 4 hours and still have a good time IS the name of the game heheh.
I asked Kristian what the #### we where doing and we both laugh while our shoes where full of water.

Glad you like what I am doing.....more pictures will follow.

more fun

more fun

It was now time to drain the sump so it could be drilled.

137877IMG_0339-med.jpg

<a href="http://s256.photobucket.co...G_0340.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

The bulkhead sits just fine.

<a href="http://s256.photobucket.co...G_0342.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

The tank has an air driven internal skimmer and a heather as well because the sump is being taken away for drilling....this is the last tank that needs drilling.

<a href="http://s256.photobucket.co...G_0343.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s256.photobucket.co...G_0349.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

The sump is empty and ready to be drilled...I was a little bit nervous here....was it on the last hole I would crack it ??? hhehe

<a href="http://s256.photobucket.co...G_0350.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

The glassdrilling maestro is done (and wet )

<a href="http://s256.photobucket.co...G_0351.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

It is time for placing two of the "sumps" where they should be.

<a href="http://s256.photobucket.co...G_0354.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s256.photobucket.co...G_0355.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

And there you have it...two tanks connected with a bulkhead.

<a href="http://s256.photobucket.co...G_0356.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
