Inwall tank build with corals that "Sway"!

Sorry for the extended gap of no pics, so here's one to get everyone by until I can get some new ones.

My wife took this with her iPhone and in my eyes one of the best tank pics ever! It's been really cool these last few months to see my daughter start having an interest in the tank and wanting to watch it all the time.

Not too long from now your daughter may be asking you to send her to school with "show and tell" items from your tank:)

When my daughter was in 3rd and 4th grade, no one could match her show and tell items...I'd send her with inverts and soft corals.

Ha...the other kids stuffed animals didn't hold a candle to the real thing:)

Finally a couple of FTS! :wavehand:

Hi,

Hopefully I didn't miss it somewhere in thread, but what do you do for maintenance?

  • I see you have a Ca reactor, do you dose anythings else?
What do you feed corals and how often?
Size and frequency of water changes?

Amazing tank and great documentation!

Cheers!

I don't dose anything and only do 20% water changes once every two months.

I just feed the fish pellets and flakes everyday. :spin1:

Love the tank! Looking for nice soft corals online is like finding a needle in a haystack.. :( But I am still trying to pull off something near as good as you.

Finding soft corals (Leathers, Toadstools, and etc.) are usually better to find locally. I've never purchased one online because most of the vendors specialize in LPS/SPS and usually don't even carry softies.

IMO, the corals that I have aren't hard to find and they're what I consider everyday corals but I've selective placed them in the tank to get a more natural look. Take a look back at the previous pages where I explained how I went about aquascaping.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

Whenever you get new corals, do you do a dip or anything special from preventing something bad like an evil strain of algae from getting into your tank? Or do you 'QT' your coral purchases too to see if any nasty's are seeded in there?

I'm very cautious about what goes in the tank and if a coral or frag has any visual type of algae or aptasia on it I don't let it come in my house (Its a deal breaker before I buy anything). With that said I don't QT because the corals I keep really don't have issues with pests. For example I do have some red planaria flatworms that are controlled by the wrasses, but they really don't cause an issue.

Note: If you go back to the very beginning of this setup I did hit the reset button (Acid/Bleach) on all of my rock and this has been the best thing I've ever done to prevent bad stuff. :D

I'd be afraid of all the things unseen by the unaided eye!
I wish there were a dip that would take care of possible algae spores and such..

One of the best looking softy tanks I've seen. Must give you much enjoyment sitting in front of it and just looking. I know I would.
Great job truly a beauty.
