Iodine VS Iodide

What does everyone run in their tanks if at all? I was reading today that Iodide can be a replacement for Iodine and Iodide is non toxic as where Iodine can be. Any input?

To skim the knowledge that is often corrupted by my mouth off the top of my head.

Iodide is missing an ion that Iodine has, making it for a lack of better word, less toxic. Harder to OD on.

It is also more soluble in water, making it easier for corals and algae to uptake.

How did I know you would be the one to answer! Thanks for your input and knowledge. In hearing that I would believe that Iodide would be the ideal one of the two to use. Would you agree?

I would agree, OR you can use a carefully calculated amount of lugols wich has less impurities in it and is alcohol free.

I used to experiment with dosing iodine, and in a 175 using a crap ton had no immediate ill effects. Nor long term because the tank is still going.

I say - Buy what is on sale.
(or do water changes, it is usually cheaper)

I found some Iodide at my work on sale for $2.99 thats why I asked haha! I believe its made be seachem.

I trust seachem. $2.99 is not a bad deal at all.

Nori I belive has a little iodine in it so if you feed that you are adding some back to the chain which is all good.

I got you beat tho, I found a 50# bag of mag flake for $2 even. I paid in quarters.

I just have to verify that it has a low enough ammonia content to be used in aquariums.

I actually may have you beat, I am going to be purchashing 3 950 GPH pumps for $25 bucks all three NIB. I wish I could remember the brand name but I believe they are HAGEN.

Hagen is blah :)

Planet reef when they had get this junk out of here sale had maxijet 1200's for $4 a piece.

If this magflake test out I am goign to devide it into 2.5# bags, I will see you get one.
