iPhone App

Much more elegant than my current (though working) solution of using the iPhone VPN app to remotely view/control the PC dedicated to the tank.

I'm subscribed, because I want exactly this!

What is the plan primarily? You access the Application only when you want to see it, or will it become live if the AC3 sends an error? I want to buy an iPhone anyway, but one of the main reasons is to check on my tank via the AC3.

Marc, the iPhone doesn't allow 3rd party applications to run in the background, so this would have to be an on-demand app. The ACIII does e-mail alerts, however, for those emergency situations.

this app looks awesome can not wait till it comes out...even if it is free i would like to make a donation to you for the work you put in to make this app.

Looks like the graph function has potential to be better than the aquanotes version. If you make it free that's great, thanks. But maybe after it's stable and tested you could charge a few bucks; I want you to be rewarded for your work...

Also a suggestion, how about making it available on the tmobile g1?? its going to be a lot easier i think to get it going thay way since it is completely an open source platform.

very impressive, i cant wait. i thought this would be the thing to have since the phone came out with the app store. good luck, hope to see it soon. if you even made it only 99 cents i bet you could make some good cash and id willingly pay that.

Marc, you do not need an iPhone to get into your AC3 remotely. Any cell phone with internet access should work for you. I have a dynamic IP address at home so I signed up with dyndns.com for a free redirector in case my IP changes I can still connect.
I got everything hooked up and stood there in front of my tanks turning lights on and off with my cell phone. I had to call my kids in to show them. Then called my wife in .. they were so excited

LOL
All you need to do is type your IP address into the phone's browser and then login just as you would on the local network.

The graphs don't work on my Instinct but at least I can see the status and change anything through the "on/off/auto" settings.

This is an awesome application and much better than the AC3 webserver but I wanted to be sure you knew you didn't NEED this app to check on your system from afar :)

Well, I know that but I'm still using an ancient Razor phone and don't use it other than to make calls. I don't text people, I don't send or receive emails. That's what the iPhone may do in the future, but for now it is a telephone.

The iPhone will be my mp3 player, my Google Maps page, and I'll be able to check on my tank. Maaaaybe I'll text people occasionally.

I've got a strange address set up now that allows me to check the controller, but it isn't an IP address. I did use that dyndns.com page to help, but that wasn't all we did. We also used something called no-ip.org.

Now now.... don't break my heart. You can't get the iPhone, but you do need to get rid of that Razor. I sent you a PM over on dfwmas forums.

You want a sick phone I'll tell ya what you can look for and etc. Even show it off to ya, I don't have a problem with showing ya when I come check out your setup on a weekend coming up, hopefully!

.... Renmar :)

im already working on it :) Mind you my AquaController III is still on the way, so if anyone wants to help me get some info I can get a better head start on it :)

I've got the app ready, I just need the format of the telnet output for the various commands. If someone can paste them here, that would help a ton.

Add me on AIM, I PM'd you.

Why not work on one for the Android OS that T-Mobile G1 users are using? It's open-source and I don't think it would give you to much trouble, whereas Apple can be sticklers when it comes to software products available for the iPhone.

Very cool- I parse folks html output into xml via the signature generator on reefchat.

Folks can enter details such as the URL to their status page, password (if needed) and what type of controller they have, and every 5 minutes I reach out, parse the html generated by their AC3 or Aquanotes, and then generate an xml file as well as a text file that's converted to an image as needed.

My app wouldn't help here though, it's only about _pulling_ data from a controller, not pushing changes in the status of devices.

asl4me76: Not a fan of Android and I don't have a G1. The iPhone OS is a far richer mobile application platform imo.
