iphone with 2wire modem/router
Ok, got it to work.
After reading up everything about the 2wire modem and testing different things, I got the 2wire modem to work with the iphone.
So I will try to outline some of the steps I took:
1) Go to your computer and pull up the cmd window. type in "ipconfig /all"
2) With all that info go to your ACIII, populate your Netmask=Subnet Mask, Gateway=Default Gateway, DNS Server. Notice I didn't say populate the IP Address
3) Here is the kicker - 2wire modems recognize the devices attached to it by the devices' MAC address, then assign an ip address to that particular device - in our case the ACIII.
Since the 2wire modem is not able to assign an ip address or does not see the MAC address on the ACIII, it would not recognize the ACIII. This is a major problem, because if you try to setup port forwarding on your att router page, under the firewall-settings page, step 1:
Select a computer
Choose the computer that will host applications through the firewall:
You are not able to select your ACIII, it is not pre-populated. Now, what to do, other than to throw your 2wire POS out the window, cancel your ATT service and get a service with a straight modem(w/o a router) and put your own favourite DLINK/LINKSYS/NETGEAR router on that has a simple port forwarding page where you can actually assign ip addresses?
So this is what I did, instead of flushing the 2wire router(2WR-POS) down the magic swirly chute.
Go to the firewall-settings page (
http://gateway.2wire.net/mdc to access your router setup page) again and find an ip address of an inactivated device. I hope you have one. If not turn on your computer or some of your other devices to get it pre-populated. I am using an ip address of one of my inactivated device. I am hoping that the 2WR-POS will recognize that my ACIII is now using that particular ip address and will reassign another ip address to that device I have stolen the ip address from.
4) We are still in the firewall-settings page. Assuming you have found a pre populated ip-address you can use, select the
Add a new user-defined application
Populate the fields:
Application name=ACIII or whatever you want to call it
Protocol=TCP
Port From=23, To=23
Go back to your firewall-settings page, select your ACIII ip address under step 1 - Select a computer. In Step 2 - Edit firewall settings for this computer, add the newly created application to the Hosted applications box to the right of your window.
Now go back to your ACIII, go to network setup and put in that ip address you got off the firewall-settings, step 1 scroll bar.
Still not done yet.
5) 2WR-POS still will not recognize the ACIII, you have to ping it from your att router page. Go to this address to access your att config page
http://gateway.2wire.net/mdc
On the left side of the window go to:
Troubleshooting
• Network Tests
Select Network Tests, and put in the ip address of your ACIII that you earlier filched from the deactivated device.
Ping it
Now the 2WR-POS will recognize the ACIII
6) Now you need to figure out your WAN that you need for the host field on the iphone.
Go to
http://www.mywanip.com/
Your WAN is in big bold red letters
Ok now get your iphone out:
Populate the fields
Host=your WAN
Port=23
User=admin
Password=1234
I hope this helps all of you frustrated ATT DSL customers having to deal with the 2wire routers.
