iPhone control of Aquacontroller devices

I see that via a LAN connected Aquanotes PC users can control all the devices connected to the AquaController....

Question: If I have an iPhone Aquanotes App can I also control "all the devices connected to the AquaController" via iPhone?

My yet to be installed Aquacontroller is down stairs (basement) and I want to be able to control devices when I'm upstairs were the display tank is.

i.e. shut down return pump for 15 min for feeding, without having to go down stairs.

Yes, but you can also have the display upstairs with the tank; that way you have quick access to things like temperature, etc rather than complete reliance on the phone app.

Thanks Kenargo,,,that helps me understand a little bit more. I just read on the mfg website that I can have more than one display and have full control over all devices from either display,,,I think I will go this route...and have the iPhone app just to show off to friends and family...

"Multiple displays can be used on one system All remote displays have the same functionality as the primary display

(i.e. can configure, graph, initiate feed cycles, etc. from all displays)Apex Systems Specification"

I do not get this, I thought that whole idea behind Aquanotes was to access/retrieve live data from the Aquacontrollers. I just read this and it makes no sense to me (see red highlight below). It completely contradicts itself, anyone understand what they mean by "AquaNotes does not work with the Apex line of AquaControllers"?

AquaNotes
AquaNotes is the most advanced aquarium management software available. This software together with an AquaController make an unbeatable combination for aquarium management. AquaNotes Version 3.5 is now shipping!
A Lite version of AquaNotes is now available for FREE! AquaNotes Lite can be downloaded here .

NOTE: AquaNotes does not work with the Apex line of AquaControllers. The web server is full featured in the Apex controller so AquaNotes is not required. With a standard web browser monitoring, control, and configuration is available on the Apex.

AquaNotes on the Neptune site is an old piece of software that worked with the ACIIs and ACIIIs.

There is an iPhone App called Aquanotes in the App Store. It was not produced by Neptune, but it works great with the Apex. Head over to iTunes / App Store and download a copy.

So just to confirm this, there are two differant Aquanotes applications one by Neptune systems and the other is the Aquanotes by Nullriver Inc.

The Aquanotes by Neptune does not work with the Apex Aquacontroller

but

The iPhone Aquanotes by Nullriver does works with the Apex controller

and

the Apex Aquacontroller has a "built-in" web server application that can be accessed by any network attached PC

You are correct.

BTW, the iPhone app was created by someone who used to visit these forums. Have not seen him around for a while though........

I'm very new to the Apex and the iPhone app. I have yet to really even get the Apex unit all connected up and programmed to control the aquarium...but I did get all the networking configuration done, including access to the Apex from outside my home.

To be honest, the Aquanotes app looks like it's going to work really well. It seems to be very fast accessing the apex, also looks like you can activate the feeding schedules with a few clicks.

I'd say, for free, it's worth a try, if it does not work, you could always get a second display.

I spend a couple of hours getting the Apex setup for access through my ISP so I can monitor on the road...there were a few tricks, if you need any help, drop me a PM.

Thanks to all.......

aquamanic - I'll be down loading your "Unofficial New User Guide" and sending along a Starbucks donation when I sit down to setup/program this thing........that is some valuable information, great job on documenting...Thanks

aquanotes from Nullriver just the same as the built in web server with one exception. the web server requires a webpage to be open. the ap is not a webpage. you cannot program your apex from your iphone usine aquanotes by Nullriver. if you use the built in web server you can program your apex from your iphone.

there is a program called 1password that is worth buying. it allows quick access to anything web based with usernames and passwords. It also gives me peace of mind; if i ever lose my iphone some ******* won't screw around with stuff through aquanotes.
