Need advice on Iron dosage/testing, who does it and how?

From what I've heard from Habib, there is no way of accurately testing iron in seawater at the levels we are interested. Dr. Ron did some testing awhile back that shows iron is rapidly depleted in a reef tank. My usual method of dosing Iron is to start with small doses and gradual increase the dosage while monitoring the tank. What I look for is increased growth growth in my macro's and sea grasses, I keep upping the concentration till I see no further improvements (and usally some extra diatom growth on the glass) and than back off to the last dosage that gave me good results.
