is 2 part dosing bad for sps?

I have been doing 2 part for about 5 months, and I have never added Magnesium. As a matter of fact, the Magnesium level goes up and down the same rate with Calcium.

By the way, I dose food grade Calcium Chloride ( Solvay brand ) and do 10% water change 1 or 2 times/month. I used to use Tropic Marin Pro Reef salt, then switched to ReefCrystal salt because of its lower Mg level. With tropic marin salt, my Mg level was always above 1500mo matter what the Ca level was.

I think I went off the topic a little bit. Sorry :)

I've stopped using my Ca reactor for about 2 years now, and have solely relied on B-Ionic. Sometimes I use baking soda and Turbo Calcium (both powders) and my tank has been very stable. (stable growth and great colors) The only other additive I use is Kent Magnesium.

How about the Magnesium level? Any of you dose Magnesium while doing 2 part?

I have a 3rd dosing pump to dose MG. Decided with as much as I was going through the weekly dump doses weren't enough so I spread it out over the day same as with CA and KH just in shorter dosing periods.

You dont need to dose kalk when using 2 part. pH is already good but if you do use kalk for some of the calcium and alkalinity addition you will need less two part and thus are adding less sodium and chloride to your tank.....if your worried about such a thing.

Also, Kalk is MUCH cheaper than 2 part. SO your mitigating the cost a little if you do both.

That's a good point.

Another good reason for using Kalkwasser is this; when used in a supersaturated solution for your ATO, not only does it help boost and stabilize pH, it also causes Phosphates to precipitate with continuous use.

I know this is an old thread, but I feel like that is a good piece of info, that is, often times, over-looked.
