for either seahorses or pipefish? species please! the tank will be filled with macros and grasses most likly and i wanted a natural looking fish to go with it i fugure if the tank is full with macros i wont have to many problems with water quality and could feeding be like only on weekends if allowed to establish for a while (a good 3 to four months) and grow mysis and copepods? i have a ten gallon already with pods growing out the butt so i thing once i transfer everything over i could get a nice little colony of little finger foods for the horses/pipes during the week

would this work?

It will not work.

The tank is too small. Some 12g's don't hold 12g's of water, more like 8.

Seahorses will not live if not fed for 5 day strectches. It is not possible to generate enough food for them in a 12g or a 120g tank for that matter. Seahorses can eat over 3000 pods a day in the wild.

Most nano's run to warm.

Sorry.

If you will only be able to care for/feed the seahorses yourself during the weekend, and would have to rely on your stepdad to feed the seahorses during the week, I'd seriously consider scrapping your seahorse/pipefish plans. I'm sure you know it wouldn't be fair to the animals.

16 is doable but very hard. I tried an 18g, not so happy of an experience. If you have a ton of salt water backround behind you it could work, but honestly most people with seahorse experience don't go below the 29g talls. Smaller tanks with seahorses =PITA. IME

A 16g would be hard to keep stable on parameters, will likely need lots of filters, and lots of waterchanges. Cheaper to go bigger in the long run. 29g tanks are like $50 at Petco and you will be happier IMO.
