Is a 125g Oceanic tank Tempered?

I've got a used 125g oceanic tank, 4' x 2' x 25" high. I'd like to drill the back glass for overflows, but can't seme to find any company info to tell me if the sides and front are tempered glass. Anyone know the answer to this, or if there is a site with the details?

If I am not mistaken most tanks have a tempered bottom, but the sides should be fine to drill. Oceanic is owned by Central Garden and Pet, so if you go to their website you may be able to contact someone.

glass is 1/2" thich

I have an Oceanic 58 that is about 5 years old, if I remember correctly all of it is tempered.On the other hand, my new Oceanic 215 Ultimate doesn't even have a tempered bottom.

I'd suggest contacting Oceanic directly, they have a website at oceanicsystems.com.

get yourself a pair of rayban sunglasses and look at the glass in natural sunlight. If you see a rainbow like when you mix oil and water it is tempered.

called the company and they said that none of their tanks use tempered glass, and they never did in the past. So all can be drilled without any concern!

I just drilled the back of my used oceanic 120 no problem. also called the company and they said it was not tempered

Interesting that they would say none of their tanks were ever tempered... there's a sticker on the bottom of my 58 that says "Tempered Glass". Maybe they meant the backs were never tempered.

Anyway, glad you got the info you needed! :thumbsup:

Maybe they mean't at his size tank. My 33g oceanic also has a tempered bottom.

strange that they have the stickers...I never said the bottom of the tank, but I did say I was going to drill for a sump.....no worries though, it'll be the back glass.
