Is a Six Line Wrasse a good choice?

Sup all. I'm puting the final touches on my 36g tank. I have a green Chromis, 2 Oscellaris Clowns, several soft corals as well as a Torch and Frogspawn. I plan to get a BTA at some point too.

Anyway, I'm thinking one more fish is about it for this size tank and I'm having trouble deciding on one. My chromis will hopefully become bolder as he gets older and will get a mind of his own and do more then hover with the clowns. But I'd still like to get a fish that is fairly active and has a good personality.

I've been toying with the following fish:
Firefish, Flame Angel, YWGoby, BiColor Blenny and the Sixline. Problem with most of this list is I hear they are reclusive or lazy. Spending most of their time just sitting around.

I've never seen any of them at the LFS but the Flame Angel, but people say they may nip at corals so I think I'm going to avoid it. I do see Sixlines a lot though. They are always on the move, weaving in and out of corals and rocks. However, I've heard they can be a bit aggressive. Is it Damsel level of aggression? Should I wait till my other fish are larger and more established and maybe they wont be so easily intimidated? My biggest fear is for my Chromis. My damsel I had used to terrorize it and it would rarely leave its little hole.

What is everyones opinion of the Six Line Wrasse?

How about a small fairy wrasse like a yellow fin? Or other fairy wrasse....

Do they have the same kind of personality as a sixline? By that I mean they spend a lot of their time swimming around minding their own business, weaving in and out of the corals and rockwork.

I have read both good and bad about the 6 line. However, I am really crazy about the little guy I have! I have him in my 40 gallon cube. He is not agressive and is always on the move, swimming in out out of the live rock. He gets along with his tankmates which are a maroon clown and goby.

i love mine also, not very aggressive, though he is the smallest fish in the tank, wouldn't trade him for the world

Yea, I've heard mixed things too. I wonder if the reason you have success is because a Maroon doesn't take lip from nobody whereas my tank will have more passive fish?

I just don't want a repeat of my damsel fiasco.

Once 6-lines reach sexual maturity, they often abandon the mind-your-own-business philosophy and can become problems -
The reason they are constantly in & out of the rocks is that they are busy wiping out your pod population - Pods, in my opinion, should be encouraged in a reef system as part of the clean up crew.

The yellow fin wrasse will be somewhat similar as they do hunt for pods also - just less so than the 6-line - so they spend more time in the water column and less time picking the rocks. But they aren't like say a firefish or yellow watchman- hanging around in the same spot all day -

Yea, that's what I want to avoid. I want a fish that spends its time swimming about while also not picking on my clowns or chromis.

Does the fairy wrasse have the same temperment when they mature?

try a 4-line wrasse or a Fridmandi's psuedochromis

i have a sixline and i absolutely love the little guy. he's not at all agressive, and he has great personality. but, he has not yet reached maturity, so i don't know if he will become aggressive.

i think like alot of fish, sixlines are hit-or-miss. my friend has a sixline that's been in his tank for over a year and is not at all aggressive either, but it's kept with a chromis, 3 clowns, a royal gramma, and a YT that are all larger than it.

My sixline was fine when I added him with exsisting fish. He however was pretty territorial torwards new additions. After a day or so he left them alone though.
