is a tote safe?

hey guys i was wondering if i could use a starilite tote that walmart sellls as a way to store and mix saltwater,its about the only thing that will fit under my tank by my sump......would it be safe to use or will the salt start eating the plastic some like i noticed with a trash can i was using

good question i was wondering the same thing. i was also wondering about some plastics leaching phosphates too.

They are fine. A lot of us use the totes. I recommend the Rubbermaid types however. The clear ones are a harder plastic and crack too easily IMO.

Fwiw, I used a clear tote for many yrs as a ro/di storage bin. I drilled it and put a fitting in it so connect the low pressure tubing. Worked great. If u do drill, do it slowly and carefully cause like mentioned above, they will crack.
