is a wavebox and 6045s enough?

well I have been putsing around with a couple of 6100s and a aquasurf for a while and never got what I was looking for, mostly because I am kind-of anal about where I am willing to put power-heads, I just got a wave box and WOW! it really gets the whole tank moving. i am wondering if I am OK to dump the 2 other 6100s and just run a few 6045s/modded 6025s for added flow in a 24 X 24 X 72 SPS tank?


also wondering if it is OK to run a few of the 6045s on 12-24 hour on/off cycles just to mix up the flow patterns

Personally I would stick with the 6100's. Fewer cords and fewer pumps overall. If you went with 6045's I think you would need at least 4 if not 6.

thanks roger, but boy, that wave box moves a LOT of water.. almost a 2" wave, every polyp in the tank is moving to and fro like in the ocean... I am almost convinced that the wave-box it's self is enough flow

BTW, does the 6100 and 6200 use the same power supply, I was running the WB on a 6100 for a few days and the 6200 only made a marginally larger wave

The 6100 and 6200 don't use the same power supply. But in the wavebox the 6260 or 6261 pump using the same power supply as the 6100 or 6101 does it make any sense

So, is the the 6260 or 6261 is just a 6100 with a 6200 fish guard? either way, the the 6260 did not make as big of a wave as the 6100 I was running (because I had cut every other spoke on the 6100) then I cut every other spoke on the the 6260, and now it does make a bigger wave, but not all that much bigger, so I was wondering if maybe I could have a problem with the rheostat in my the 6260 control box, or it that about par for what would be expected?

The wavebox using 6200 pump with 6100 power supply or transformer if you have older model. It is pretty much a 6100 with bigger impeller

Yes, it is basically a 6100 with the bigger prop and larger diameter outlet.
