Is ABS pipe safe in my tank?

I needed a 4 inch "T" to make a DIY filter sock holder for my tank. I have a local pumbing supply store but could not find PVC in 4 inch. They did have 4" ABS pipe fittings though so I bought an ABS "T "in the same size that I needed. I just want to make sure that it is safe to put in my tank before I do so. I see that most people use PVC pipe and have never seen ABS used in reef plumbing, probably because it's only available in larger sizes but I thought it would be a good idea to ask first. Thanks

I recall searching for info on this last year and if I recall correctly, it is fine to use.

well actually ... I was just about to post something similar.. lol I was at the hardware store today and looking for 1 1/2" pvc pipe and fittings.. well funny all I could find was ABS (BLACK) and I decided not to make the purchase till I found out if they indeed were ok to use...

I too have only seen the PVC (WHITE) fittings used..

from what I understand is that PVC is good for cold or Hot lines and can withstand colder temps.. ie outside plumbing...

and that the ABS plumbing was used for drains.

also... with the PVC they have to use a primer (PURPLE) and a glue after.. they make it purple so building inspectors can tell it was used...

with the ABS there is just a glue that needs to be used.. now though they have a glue that will be ok to use for both pipes.. but again if your building code requires the PURPLE primer this is not an option...

so anyhow I also would like to know if I could use this ABS pipe.. and also I think it will look nice too..

I did do a search but I forgot to change the results from the default "withing 30 days" setting. I'm surprised it's not more popular because it looks much more attractive than PVC IMO.
