Is anyone using 150W Halides on their tank that's smaller than 30 gallons? Especially Aqua/Nano pods.

-Mike ;)

Yes. I have a 150 watt 10,000K and a 28 watt compact fluorescent actinic on a 14 gallon. Here is a photo.

Well if i need a chiller I really want one that is rather plug and play. I really don't want to be drilling holes in my tank and having extra pumps and plumbing in order to run the water through a chiller.

I've heard of these ice probe chillers that have a part of them that goes in the water. How well do those things work? Are they worth looking into?

250 Watt over 29 gallon :D I keep it raised about 6-8" over water depending on how hot it is ... still get great results!

Open your tank up to more evaporation ... it is the best/economic method of cooling IMO.

I added a larger return pump, and now pump the water out of the tank, through a Turbo-twist UV Sterilizer and 1/6 HP Aqia-Chill chiller.

I added a second pump that pumps water into an old calcium reactor housing that I modified to be a refugium.

No more worries. Unless the pump quits.

Xylem, gorgeous tank for a 14g. Really good example of what can be done!! I'd be a bit concerned regarding the mysteri wrasse and the lyretail anthias in such a small system but everything looks great.

I use a 150W HQI MH on my 20G, no issues at all, its 30cm or 1' from the surface. But i suppose, i do live in Ireland! Pretty cold here compared to Cali!

I have the 150w 20k coralife MH fixture over my 29g.

the built in fan does good... and u have to have glass top over the tank if u have it..

temp is perfect with it too..

Pic of my 20G with anemones under 10,000K 150W M/H. BTA bottom left, and what i believe is Anthopleura Sp. Rock Anemone on the vertical LR piece (with a green gastrovascular cavity)

I use 150HQI sunpod over AP24g and temps can really climb but with the use of a desk fan temps max out to 79 or 80. The downside is the incredible evaporation...at least half a gallon a day.

175 over a 20L.... i jsut converted a computer fan to an ac adapter to blow the hot air out of the canopy, and the temps stays right at 78 :D :D im so happy something actually worked for once!
