Is anyone using Odyssea Lights?

i know dave and rob on this board had the JEBO PC's and never had any problems. JEBO and odyssea are the same thing.

Odyssea is just a line of Jebo. I will tell you, I used to run them and had absolutely no problem. They are quite spectacular for the price. For about the price of a bulb change you can get a whole new setup. Really excellent, but the case does get hot. The fans on th Odyssea(but not the regular jebo) and the legs keep it at a much more even range. Seriously, if I were to ever go back to pc's, it would only be Odyssea system. Jebo has a reputation of being cheap and inefficient. The first part is true, but I disagree with the latter. They may not be as efficient as a $200 setup, but for 50-75, I feel they are WAY underpriced, which is just great for us, the consumer. Goes to show that Chinese labor CAN make good products afterall.

Hi Craig and thor, The two setups I'm looking at are with the metal halaides included. A 36" W/ 2 175w, pc & moon for about $350 shipped, for a 65g 24" high. And a 48"W/ 3 150w, pc & Moon about $375 shipped, for a 30g long 12" High.

I bought these PCs for christmas this year. I have had nothing but problems. I had to replace two of the four ballasts, 3 of the 8 bulbs, and 3 screws that are supposed to hold the thing together all within the first 2 months of owning them. half of the fans dont work, some of the bulbs that I have not replaced yet only half fire, and there is noway in the world that they are putting out the 768 watts my setup is supposed to be produceing. My local store also sells these lights ( I bought them from aqua traders ) and he said he has trouble all the time with the ones he gets in to sell. If I had known better........

I think the 48" one you are looking at would be overkill for a 30G(I think you mean 33G long, 48"X13"X12"). The MH alone is 15W/G. With the pc's it will probably be getting close to or over 20W/G. This is more than you need. I would recommend a 2 bulb system(2X150W and 2X65W should easily cover it) with VHO or PC supplement, but you never will need more than 15W/G which I still believe is higher than necessary as it is. May end up doing more harm than good with water temp, needing chiller, more topoffs due to evap, etc.

Sounds like a good choice for the 65G. I think, overall, VHO's are much better lighting than PC's for actinic supplement, but that is personal opinion.

I have the 48" 260watt PC. It has two actinic bulbs and two 12000k bulbs. I paid $135 shipped. I have had them for about 3 months and had nothing go wrong. I was surprised by the quality for the price. Only thing I had to do was tighten the fan mounts because the fans were noisy. It doesnt get hot at all with the fans going. If you have a 55 gallon or smaller these are perfect! I have an anenome some soft corals andlots of coraline algea in my 4 month old tank under these lights. I bought a 150 gallon tank and I think i am going to use t5's. The large jebo systems (longer than 48") are not that great because they dont put out enough wattage.

That makes sense, Craig. I was thinking because of the length, two bulbs wouldn't light evenly. Also, at 48" I could use the light fixture if/when I decide to get a bigger tank later. I was thinking that maybe I would run the MH's alone for about 8hrs and then the pc's alone. I think I'm going to write to Aquatraders and see if I can talk by phone to anyone. I couldn't find a number on there website.
All suggestions are welcome. Nothing is written in stone at this point. But I must keep the price for lighting both tanks, if I go MH, to the 6-700 range.

Yeah Dave, I probably only need the pc's by themselves to do the job on that tank. An option would be to do that For $135 and use the rest for the 65. Actually, I have a Custom Sealife Smartlite on there now with a 96w 50/50 that I could just put a actinic in and get two MH's and moon lites to complete.

I have the Odyssea lights from Aqua-Traders. I use a 220 watt 48" PC and a 108 watt T5 on my 55 gallon. Used PC for 2 years & T5 for 1 year with no problem of any kind. I am going to order another T5 x 108 watt & replace the PC's.

I wish there was someone who lives close to Lockhart who could stop by and see what I have and offer suggestions of what I could/should do within the budget I have. How is that mentor program going? Oh, I have BEER! and can make a pretty mean Margs !!!

they first told me I had to send the whole fixture back (pay for the shipping) to get it fixed. They wont replace the bulbs becuase they list them as free on the fixtures and they say they dont need to replace anything that is free. I bought new ballasts from hello lights becuase I didnt want to put thier crappy ballasts back in just to have them go out again. At the end of it all I told them I was gonna send all the light fixtures back and that I wanted a full refund unless they sent me the ballasts out. They did, and I am keeping them for emergency use if the other two ballasts go out any time soon. It is very hard to get anybody to talk to on the phone there and when you do they tell you to send an email. thing is thier guy who answers the emails only comes in like once a week to do so....

I am runnning the oddysea 48" 260 watt pc. 2 actinic, 2 day light with 4 moonlights. I have only had mine for about 7 months and my fans already went out. The lights work fine, only thing is with mine they don't have separate plugs so you can't put them on timers, I'd check yours for that, not being able to put them on timers gets very annoying! My opinion I got what I paid for, If I could go back I'd spend a little more!

Bigevill, Thanks for your input. Guess you won't be inviting the Aquatrader crew over for dinner. I understand that 'buying cheap' is a throw of the dice and volume sellers' customer service isn't going to be top notch, especially when you can't see or talk to a person. But they did replace your ballast. And as long as someone pays with a credit card they will have the option of stopping or delaying payment, which gets the attention of the seller in a more timely manner. From what I gather, a few fan mods and I can go MH for about half the price. I couldn't do MH's otherwise. I still haven't made my decision yet, but at least now I am informed. Thanks again.
tangers - are you saying that you would buy from the same seller and just get a better version of what you have? Or go with something and someone different altogether?

I got my lights off of ebay, had absolutely no problem with the seller or the transaction. Everything shipped perfect and worked perfect. As for the product the fans went out within a half of a year and the lights I have don't have separate cords coming out so I have to manually turn them everyday from moonlight-actinic-daylight-, daylight - actinic- moonlight. You get the idea. I wish I would have gotten a sysem with at least three separate cords so I could put the lights on timers. other than the fans and the inconvenience(sp) with the cords I have no probs. I have good growth off the lights and I think good color. If (however) I could go back I would spend the extra dollars and get a different system. These lights I am only going to use for a few more months and then I am switching to a 125 gallon tank with 3 mh retro fits. If this is going to be a long term investment for you you might want to really make sure these are going to work. I would just check to see if they have three cords. Another option is I was going to have a guy from work redo the electrical for me and make three cords come out, but like I said I am getting a whole new system shortly. Good luck!
