Is coralline on old live rock still alive?

I have some old live rock sitting in a tank of saltwater for over a year. No heater, no circulation, pretty much untouched for quite some time. Most of it is bleached but there are a few pieces that still have some colored coralline algae on it. Is the coralline still alive or does it keep the color after it dies?

From what I've seen, coraline algae is some tough stuff. I have a piece of LR that I keep in my QT and it has undergone numerous hyposalinity treatments, months without lights, and it still has coraline algae on it that grows once I leave the lights on for a while.
