Is garlic bad for SPS?

I was adding garlicguard to the fish food to help my blue tang recover from a mild case of ich. I noticed some of the tabbling acros not doing that well. It could something else, but I just wanted to rule out garlic for now. Oh yah, one capful of garlicguard in a container used to feed fish over a week's time.

im not the best of source but i add (KENT) Garlic Xtreme to the majority of fish feedings i do and i havnt se any "negative" affects because of it been doing it for a few months now id look at something else but any1 care to give additional feedback on this?

I have been adding garlic guard as well, and haven't seen any negative side effects.

No side effects here using garlic. I must mention though that garlic never helped my tang. I eventually had to take all the fish out and put them in a QT.

Thanks guys for all your feedback. Really appreciate all your info. Keep on Reefing.

Shouldn't be a problem just be careful you don't overdue it. Some of that is some potent stuff and can lead to algae issues/excess phos..

I love Garlic Xtreme works great for introducing new fish whom are stressed to start feeding.. have had no adverse affects on my SPS system while using it.. just make sure you keep up with water changes though ;/

Ozone will cure ick in an sps tank. Garlic smells good. Thats it, it doesnt cure ich. If you think it does then you are going to loose lotsa fish. Yea, some may recover after you add garlic but if it was from the garlic then they all would recover. They dont. Some would recover anyway even if you didnt add garlic. It may be good for your fish. Mine seem to thrive without it so i would wonder about that, but for sure , you can bet that garlic doesnt cure ich. If you treat your water with ozone or UF to kill the free swimming phase of the parasite you kill it and then you can cure your fish with out hurting your coral. Its simple and it works.

Thanks Dog Boy. I did change my UV bulb recently. Figured that it was probably UV, but just curious about the whole garlic thing. If you have some experience with ozone, what brand and power do you recommend for a 180 gallons SPS tank? Thanks again for your feedback.

I used a Red Sea 200 mg per hour unit. i injected it into my skimmer using an air pump. I dont need to run it anymore but still have it on standby if i ever add another fish or have an outbreak. Do a search and do your homework. Ozone can be dangerous if it gets into your system. It oxidizes fast though so if you inject into you skimmer and discharge into your sump it would be very hard to od in a 180 system. I always placed an animal like a torch coral or something in the sump with the discharge. If i ever had ozone escape into the system my canary coral would let me know. Do some searches and do your homework. Ozone is safe and effective if you set it up correctly. Honestly though UV with a clean bulb lens is also very effective to kill free swimming live animals if they are passed near the active lamp. With a new bulb and a clean lense yopu may not need ozone.
