Is good reef lighting expensive?

depends on what your trying to do with your tank/tank size etc. Look into DIY LED fixtures, they are a cheaper alternative that IMO is just as effective.

Lighting is REALLY exspensive, but it doesn't have to be. You could definately find some nice LEDs at your hardware store or somewhere for much cheaper. Maybe you could find some used?

I would look into some sun tubes or whatever they are called that would give you actual light from the sun then add some sort of led to supplement the sun tubes. Or say forget the sun tubes since it will be a shark tank and maybe look into getting a DIY Rapid led build. You could spread the LEDs out further than recommended to have the lighting more subdued for the sharks

you are the fella who has posted many times about black tip sharks...that still makes you the shark guy...I would hold off with duplicate posts :)

Have you ever even had a saltwater tank before? The costs to set up and maintain a tank this size would be thousands and thousands of dollars, even upkeep and cleaning (water changes) would be extremely difficult and expensive. I highly discourage you from attempting a tank this size, especially for a first tank. Please, just do some research and set up a small tank at first, if you can keep that successfully then you could look to upgrade to a bigger tank sometime in the future. I am by no means an expert but I think many on here will agree with my recommendations.

The time you spent posting this question took longer than it would have to go to one single aquarium retail website and have that question answered.

Seriously man, take two seconds and do some research if you are seriously considering starting a small tank let alone this 2000 gallon one.
