Is it crazy to put a Peacock mantis in a 12 gallon nano cube?

That's not a salmon
Team RC
I just got a peacock mantis from fishsupply.com. I am very happy with her. She is about 3-4 inches, well adjusted and eating. Very interactive. Currently in an 8 gallon Mirabello tank (they aren't too common) and doing fine.

This may seem like a dumb question, but can I house her (for a while anyway) in my 12 gallon nano cube? I understand she may excavate and move corals and rock work. I'm willing to take that chance.

But will she destroy/eat any of the corals? I have frags or small specimens of:

Galaxea
Torch coral
Frogspawn
yellow polyps
brown polyps
orange polyps
cabbage leather
toadstool leather
mushrooms
small rose BTA
tiny BTA clone
Also have some macro, don't care about it too much

Can/will any of these harm HER?

The tank is very healthy. It is an unmodified nano cube, with 24-watt reef lighting. I left the bio-media and foam in the back, may remove it.

As the corals grow, they will be moved to larger accomodations. There is about 15 lbs live rock forming a lot of hollows and caves. Shallow sand bed.

Ultimately I want to move the BTAs to a dedicated tank (44 gallon), and get a 24 gallon nano for the polyps, other corals (and maybe the mantis shrimp).

I have other and bigger tanks I can house her in (or move her to once she grows).

The nano is on my desk at work, and I love to look at it. I love to look at the mantis too.

Is it crazy to want to try this?

There is a chance she will kill some or all of the items you mentioned...

I would start a peacock off in a 20 gallon long tank minimum by herself with LR only.

If you wat to do the setup you are suggesting you would probably have better luck with a N. Wenn.

My N. Wenn lives happily in my mini reef tank...They only thing he kills is small blue leg hermits.

OK, the 20 gallon long it is, or maybe the 29 acrylic tank... Thanks for the response. I will have to see if there is room in my office. She is just so cool!

Do you no where I could get a N. Wenn? These guys are addictive.

You guys are great! This forum is an awesome resource. I just placed an order with Capture the Sea. Talked to a super nice guy named Jim. He is going to ship me N. Wenn early next week. I'm going to order a couple other items to "fill the box". Thanks!

I thought about ordering from TBS, but the LFS was so helpful, and the price was the same, so I decided to go with them.
