I helped start up SLASH this last year, but I surf both and will be posting on both...heck, out of our 70+ members on SLASH, I bet most of them belong to SEASL too.
While I have not liked the way the "elder statesmen" at SEASL ran the club in the past, I find that I like 99% of their current members and consider many of them friends.
Our main reason for starting SLASH was because the leaders of SEASL refused to grow with the times. Reef Central is what caused their success and growth, not the other way around. When they chose not to recognize the collective voices of the folks here on RC, we thought it time to give those voices a podium and started this club.
I think it is time to move forward in friendship. We have two clubs and I would like to see more interaction and cooperation between them. Heck, we are all in the same hobby and pursuing many of the same goals.
The plus side for folks that could never make the once a month weekend meeting like me, is that we now offer several functions each month. It might be a weekend event at one of the clubs, or an informal pizza night/tank tour with SLASH. I think bringing the folks for laid back nights out talking over a beer or three has been a great thing and has really forged some good friendships.
Hopefully, things will improve and we will see both clubs work together in the Saint Louis Area to accomplish great things.
