I am wanting to get a fairy and/or flasher wrasse and I am not sure if they out compete the Mandarin for pods. Is it possible to keep these two together without the Mandarin starving?

of course they will get along -- as far as food you need 75 lbs of liverock (prob more w/ other fish who hunt), refugium, pod piles

maybe try the caviar - flying fish roe trick too

I'd like to add a mandarin but the neon dottyback, damsels, solar wrasse even neon gobyt hunt the live rock constantly -- plus I noticed the pod pop has died down since buying a UV unit.

prob be a good idea to feed phyto as well

basically all fish are going to hunt your live rock so I dont think theres too much you can do about it

I have a Mandarin with 5 fairy wrasses, a Lineatus, Lubbocks, Pink Margin, Whipfin, and Solar with no problems in a 120 reef and 225lbs of live rock. I really don't see my fairies paying any attention to the rocks looking for pods, well I have never seen them go after pods on the rocks. Fairy wrasses are planktivores so the eat stuff in the water column. Also I have another 4 Fairies in my other tank and have never seen them eat pods off the rocks either.

Well, I have around 125 lbs of live rock in the display tank and do have a refugium with chaeto. Not ready to add a Mandarin since the tank is around 6 weeks old.
