Is it possible to mesh mod a Mj400?

I see all these mesh mod threads and I wonder if it would be possible to do this on a MJ400. I have a simple skimmer I used on my 24 nanocube but it didn't output that great. I got gunk just not really good gunk. I tried doing a bioball mod on it but had issues getting the balance right. Just wondering if someone has tried it on a MJ impeller.

since you cut all of the needles off of the impeller I guess I dont see why this mod wouldnt work on all impellers that have a flat back piece

Well the MJs don't actually have the needles. They are flat paddle impellers. What I did previously was trying to fit a piece of bioball in between the blades on the impeller to act as a needlewheel. I had a bunch of problems getting it balanced so it made a bunch of noise. I abandoned that idea quickly. This mesh mod would probably work much better, but I am not sure it can work with a paddle impeller.

You need to convert the pump to a needle wheel first I believe. You'll have to change the way the air comes into the pump then..

Basically the air has to come in first and then it gets chopped up by the mesh.

Unlike with the 400 which is probably set up venturi style.

You can inject a venturi with an air pump but not the other kind correct ? I have been plaing around with some pumps and so far this is what I have found.

Could you simply add some pipe to the intake of the mj and add a airline to an air pump or similar?

You can epoxy or super glue the mesh between the blades. Not sure how much playroom there is but you could possibly add a layer on each side.

I modded the mj400 to have an air intake on the side opposite teh output. Drilled a small hole. Seems to suck air decently just not at any great depth.
