I have a small clam that hitchiked on a peice of my live rock. I dont know what kind but it is purple when opened ande is about 1/4 inch long. Would it be safe to try and remove it from the hole its hiding in or should I just leave it? Its really cool lookin and I want to put it out in the open without hurting it.

If your clam is hiding and enbedded into the liverock chances are you have either a Crocea, a Maxima, or a thorny oyster. Anyways, do not disturb it as most people cannot remove clams the properway end up killing it by injuring it's byssal muscle. Make sure you elevate the clam to the top in case it's one of the tridacna species so it gets plenty of photoperiod and most importantly, you must, must, must provide live phytoplankton for a clam/oyster of that size to survive otherwise it'll just fade away in the matter of weeks.

I use phytoplankton and it has been ok for the last 3months since the tank was first setup. thanks for the help, I would really like to keep him healthy plus it looks pretty cool.
