Ok im now trying to decide weather or not to get the sunpod 150w for my AP. Im just weighing my options on if its worth the $250 or not... What differences will i see...other than more intense light....going from the stock 64w of pc lighting to this. Will my colors change in my corals, with the change in light shock them, growh rates?? Also is the 14k bulb that comes with it going to provide a bluer light because i prefer that over the 10k look.

Will the cost of running the bulb increase in a huge amount also?!?

Thanks
Randall

Corals might be a lil shocked at first because the light will be much more intense. Best to acclimate the corals to the light by only running the halides for a few hours the first day and then slowly increasing the photo period as time passes. Corals should color up nicely too with the halides.

It all depends on what you want to keep in your tank. If you're happy with the types of corals you're keeping now, why change it? However, if you're thinking about SPS or if you noticed that some of your corals aren't as bright as when you purchased them, go for it!

As for the cost, my estimate is another $5/month if you're currently running 75w of PC.

i would love to start keeping acros, and more montiporia. Right now i have primarially lps. but have some monti but it just doesnt have the color that it did when i put it in the tank. I also have some acans that i would love to get the most color as possible out of. I have some euphillia also that i love but think that it might be getting too big for the tank....other than that i would love to get a primarially sps dominated tank other than rics, acans, and zoas!

i went from 64w to the 80w orbit fixture then to sunpod 150w hqi. i love the new light my corals look a 100 times better and the shimmer effect is amazing. the way i acclimated my corals to the new light was i took a piece of eggcrate and 1 layer of dark black fiberglass window screen i ran the new light the same 8 hours didnt lower my photo period. i then removed the 1 layer of screen after 7 days and then the eggcrate 7 days after that. but since your going from 64w i would put eggcrate with 2-3 sheets of screen and remove one thing every 7 days.

thats a great idea! thanks for the info...im planning on getting the light later this week but am still trying to decide if the $250 is worth it!!! lol

For $250 there are alot of options out there. You can often pick up one hell of a used setup or a really nice retro for less... Back in November I got a brand new 175w pendant and 2x32w pc lights all for $100 up in Denver...
