Is length or width more important in selecting a larger tank

My current tank is 72"L x 36"W x 27"H. In hindsight, I wish I would have gone longer. Although I wouldn't change the width as deep tanks give you tons of options for aquascaping, etc., a longer tank looks much more impressive.

I would second that my tank is 72x30x26.. Hindsight , i would have gone 84x32x26 ... But too late now ..

+1...Where can we see this?

It's on his profile. Of course, your next step will probably be to call him a liar and badger him for a while, but it's there.

(ARS in the HOUSE)

I'm looking at a 48 x 48, meanwhile, and really like the possibilities.

my tank is 96 x 36 x 36. the depth is a problem for lighting but i keep the high light corals at the top. i wish i would have went 96 x 48 x 36 or maybe 96 x 48 x 30. i view my tank from both long sides and the corals get to close to the glass and get broken off when cleaning the tank with a scraper. wider would be better but i already have 96 long......

depth is important with the asthetics of creating a more natural looking reef seen. But I would go at least 6ft long. We install most reefs at a minimum of 72L by 24H by 40W.

If you read the literature, the wider tanks are recommended to encourage more gas exchange at the surface to ensure maximum oxygen levels. Tall narrow tanks look great for the viewer, but are less healthy for the inmates. I don't think you would want to go with a tank that is higher than it is wide, i.e. width = height, and length whatever your spouse lets you get away with.

Other concerns have already been mentioned: deeper tanks need stronger lighting (=$$$ in purchase and maintenance costs), bigger or more active fish need longer tanks, etc.

Personally, I can't stand low tanks. Everything looks like it's trying to survive in a puddle. Minimum height for me would be 30", but that's just my personal preference. YMMV

kinda curious as well... never saw albano badger or call anyone a liar.He is local to me and see him on other boards as well.People seem to get along with him there as well.People seem to over react to others sense of humor then get nasty and start name calling.Lets all try to remember this is a hobby and should be treated as one.I dont want to get into a keyboard duel with anyone, but if you are gonna call someone a liar you should at least show us what its about.I really dont care but I would like to know just the same

I have a 48"x48"x25" tank and I love the front to back real estate. You can do so much more with your aquascaping. I almost bought a 180 and I am glad I did not. IMO I would go with one of the deep dimension tanks over a 180.

As others I have said I would not go much more than 24" deep since it is difficult to get to the bottom and harder to light

Pictures please....
