Is my clam dying?

I have noticed for the last week that my squamosa clam has not been as open as he usually is and last night he was almost shut. I thought that he may need to be moved higher, so I picked him up, he was on the sand and had not attached to anything. When I did so a literal flood of pods came out from the inside through the bysal opening. Additionally, no foot was present, nor did I see any threads.

I hate to lose this clam, I have had him for nearly a year. Another concern is that I have to go out of town on Monday and do not want a dead clam in the tank. Thanks for the help.

Have you checked for pyramid snails? What kind of lighting is he under? HAve you checked all your water parameters?
