Is my liverock dying!?!

Okay guys, i got more liverock covered in Purple Coraline Algae. It looks pretty good, it has like two or three feather dusters. Also in one of the pictures, there is this yellow thing in my rock, is this a plyop? Could some1 ID this for me?

Good luck! Don't let discouraging comments get you down. :) There have been many fish that have survived newb conditions so you're not alone on making some mistakes, everyone makes them. The new premium LR looks great! That's a little yellow sponge, may or may not live, depends on the level of nutrients in the water. Sorry to hear your LFS ripped you off. Ya live and ya learn! Happy reefing!

If it were me, I'd take that stark, white rock and bury it under the sand to use as base rock and place the other rock on top of it. You should always build a solid structure on top of base rock and not the sand. It's not a good idea to pile rock on top of the sand as future sand sifting critters can burrow under it and cause your rockwork to tumble down.

BTW, that new rock looks MUCH better than the dead white stuff.

Check out you local reef club forum or Craigslist. Typically someone is breaking down a tank and selling it for $2 or 3 per pound.

+1

Dont go back to the LFS ever again, they sold you dry rock that they probably put in the tank the day before. You can easily tell the difference from live rock and dry rock and you my friend have dry rock. If your new to the hobby you want to find a local club because you will get to know others around you and get to see a bunch of tanks you didnt know existed. Good luck in the hobby!

Yeah, i found another LFS that was sooo much better. all the liverock they had was covered in Coraline of all different colors. i was on a budget and that was the smallest rock they had that would fit my budget. i thought it would be enough because it will seed over to the others. BTW how can i get the Coraline to start to grow on the other rocks?

Thanks guys

to get coraline need your light to be right, cal, alk, mag. there is a lot of different factors. stop worrieing about coraline.spend time learning from the bottom up and all the good will come out in the end, along w/ the bad.its a never ending learning hobbie, worry about the stuff that matters and the coraline will happen. good luck!! in this hobbie only bad things happen fast have a little patience. thats what i found
