Is my male seahorse ok?

I have a male seahorse. I think he is a Kuda. He is housed with 2 females. Over the last week or so his pouch has been getting bigger. He is not having any bouyancy issues at all. While watching him tonight it looked like he opened his pouch for a quick second. Is opening the pouch real quick normal? Here are a few pics of his big pouch from today:

Certainly looks like that horse is going to be a dad at some point. He's either pregnant now...or flushing his pouch out to impress the girls. Congrats!

The most widely used food for the fry are rotifers, which you'll have to purchase and culture. Rotifers are much smaller than newly hatched brine shrimp which are too large for Kuda fry. Some people have had a bit of success feeding newly hatched San Francisco Bay strain (NOT San Francisco BRAND brine) brine shrimp, but rotifers are the best to use.

You'll have to do lots of research if you plan on trying to raise the fry....such as how to set up nursery tanks, etc as the fry do not hitch for a few weeks.

If you're not prepared to raise fry at this point, I'm sure there are members who already have the proper setups that would be willing to take the fry.

Best of luck!

Thanks for replying. I have seen frozen rotifers at my lfs. Do you think the frozen rotifers would work or would I need to use live ones?

You'd need to use live one's. I just saw your post on sh.org as well (I'm Tom on that site). You can PM or e-mail DanU (seahorsesource.com) as he sells rotifer cultures and algae pastes to feed the rotifers. He's really great about answering questions and helping.

I have been looking at the nursey threads on sh.org. Most show people using the round fish bowls inside of like a 10 gallon. Is the fish bowl method the best way for a nursey? I currently have a 6, 10 and 20 gallon I can set up for a nursey. The nursey is something I would like to start setting up tonight. I would like to try and raise the fry even though I am sure it will be a hard task being this our 1st time. I have emailed Dan about getting the supplies I need. Thanks.
