Is my new chiller causing problems?

Im in college right now and so my parents have been taking care of my tank, recently they got a chiller and have began to have problems with some of the corals looking as if they are dying and most recently my midas blenny and clam died. It's a 34 gallon red sea max and before the chiller i had used only the air conditioning and kept my door closed. Water was tested and all the parameters are good and the temperature is set at 79 exactly.Could the new chiller be the problem? Or what do yall think?

Was the chiller brand new? Used?

Two things come to mind. Most manufactured "things" we put into our tanks, like skimmers and pumps and chillers, have a light coating of manufacturing oils on them used to keep cool during the manufacturing process or for helping parts go together. Almost every manual I've ever read on a pump says to run it in a bucket or a sink first and wash it out, then place it into the aquarium. My last two skimmers have said the same thing also. I would suspect a chiller needs the same care.

So, it could have put a little bit of something into the tank that your corals really didnt like, I could see that being a possibility.

On the flip side, if it was used... there are lots of tubes in the radiator of a chiller, they could have something settled into them that was disturbed when you got it and hooked it up and it blew out into your tank.

Agreed with copps. Have you asked your parents to test the water parameters? Any overfeeding issues? Do they stick their hands into the aquarium without thorough washing the hands? I hope you see where we're going with this. Have they helped take care of your tank under your supervision before you went to college?
