Is my nudibranch dead?

If a nudibranch dies, can it stay on the glass or will it fall off? Mine hasn't moved since yesterday, but it's still on the glass. It just sits there right in front of the powerhead. I'd be really disappointed if it's dead, not just because any death is really disappointing, but also because it was a gift from my best friend. She'll probably be upset too. Thanks in advance for any replies

I tried to delete the post, but I couldn't. Anyway, I slid the nudibranch down the glass out of the way of the flow, and five minutes late it was back up in front of the powerhead. I guess it just likes it there.

Christine,

I'm glad your nudi is still kicking, but be prepared for it to not be before too long. Most of them are very specialized eaters of sponges, certain types of corals, etc. And they need quite a bit of what they eat. Yours could possibly be an algae eater since it's spending time on the glass. If that's the case, you might have gotten lucky. Keep an eye on it around your corals though.

It wouldn't be so bad if I weren't out of RO water. My water is a little high, not so bad that I can't wait until this afternoon. I keep telling myself that if it were a Monday or Wednesday, I wouldn't even know that the water was low until 6 or 6:30.

Maybe Santa will be generous!!! One can only hope. About to leave for the store. I should go later, but just in case he's there, I'll go now.

I went down around 4:30, and Joe said to come back tomorrow because the shipment wouldn't be in until 10:30. Oh well. I got my RO water though. I'll fill you in tomorrow, of course I don't know exactly what you like, so I probably won't be of much help.

Christine,
Back to the topic. Just to warn you, as previously mentioned, Nudibranchs are very picky feeders. They also only have a 2 month or so life span. They are also notorious for becoming power head puree. Be careful.
Later,
Bill

Thanks for the warning, Fox. I've had him since I think October 21st (may be the 22nd, but somewhere around then). He's never gotten on the rocks at all to my knowledge. I've tried to see with a flashlight when the tank lights are on, and he spends all night on the powerhead. He seems to really like it. Anyway, I'll keep my eye out.
And on an unrelated subject, why are the shipments always late on the LFS that we both go to? Supposedly they always come in by 5 on Wednesday. Since I got my tank, they're always late, but they're always in late Wednesday night so when I go on Thursday morning the corals have had time to acclimate to the show tanks. Today, they're not going to be open until 4:30, which probably won't happen either. He's always an hour late on fish shipment day. It's so sad that my week revolves around the new shipment. Enough with my venting, this was supposed to be about nudibranchs.

I'm not sure why his shipments are always late. I don't think that's his fault though. Especially this time of year, planes are constantly being delayed. I think over 85% of all flights are delayed now. The skies are almost as crowded as the roads. I used to always be there when his shipments came in, but I've been working alot of overtimes lately and haven't even been there for around a month.

RJ,

I thought that I had read or heard somewhere that most of them had a very short natural lifespan, but didn't want to say so until I new for sure.

Christine,

That happens alot. I used to show up every Wednesday for the shipments, but I live over an hour away and it became a pain to drive down there after work only to find out the shipment wouldn't be there until late. Anyway, right now I'm kind of looking for a mated pair of gold banded maroon clowns.

I don't think I saw a pair of maroons. He did have really pretty hippos in, but I resisted. I didn't pay a lot of attention to what fish he got in, but he did get a lot of really pretty corals. He had a beautiful montipora, and a great purple and green true brain. He also got in tons of elegance. It was tempting, but I managed to resist them. I don't want a really hard coral. He also got in a huge plate coral that was really pretty. There was a really neat purple pagoda that had an interesting shape. I almost got that, but I already have two in my tank. I love pagoda!!! He had some nice yellow leather. I can't remember any more. I'd go just to see the elegance. One was enormous. And another had rose tips that were really bright. I like to go there just to look anyway. Oh, and he had a banded cat shark egg.
