im using a SWC 160 on my setup (details in sig) and i get a build up of detrius in my sump. i cleaned it out yesterday and it was pretty bad. i realize no skimmer is gonna get it all.. i guess i just figured it could do a better job?
is my skimmer big enough? i have 5 fish right now and plan in at least 3 more...
i am considering a octopus NWB200 but dont want to upgrade if its not worth it. would the change make that big of a difference in my display and sump?
i know i need to keep up with husbandry, i was just wondering if this would make a difference?

I experienced a build up of detritus also in my sump too as I run a Vertex IN100 on a 75 gallon tank with a 20 gallon sump. I thought about upgrading too as I felt I needed a bigger skimmer but read in a thread here on RC that having a little pump in the sump to help keep particles suspended will reduce the build up. I plan on adding this pump sump to see what happens. Hope this helps.

No socks?

get a sock

if you're running socks and still getting build up you could always throw in 1 or 2 tiny hydor pico power heads. Those little suckers work great for stirring a sump without taking up a lot of space.

your skimmer size is fine

no sock. i tried an extra powerhead for a short time but never stuck it out..i have socks just did not want a nitrate factory. maybe its time to break them out.

Just get a few of them and alternate them every few days. Hot water wash in the washing machine (no detergent) works wonders. You could also use mesh socks. They don't polish as well as felt but they don't clog as fast, are easy to clean and are more durable.
