is my tanks bioload really overdone?

well that is a good point. explains that then lol. but i am gonna add the charcoal and head to bed but will keep updating if any changes.
 
well i did add the charcoal and that really does help, i mean it still smells but not nearly as bad. thanks for the tip on that.

but here is the good news. day 14 of use and tested and finally 0 nitrates. and even better my DIY coil denitrator has finally started to cycle. (well the small one is, the bigger one still nothing) i am finally getting a reading of .25 ammonia 0 nitrites and 0 nitrates still. but i am finally seeing something happen with it. so i guess you can make them to big. lol
 
Some skimmer cups are made to hold carbon on the top of the lid. I think JJ had one that did that. That way the air that vented up out of it had to pass through carbon, thereby absorbing the odor.

Why don't you post in our DIY Cil thread what you did differently this time around. I need to test mine, today should be week three.
