Is my toadstool dying

Hi I only had this for like a week and it has not opened up in like 3 days. I notice that my yellow tang picks at it sometimes. It now has a lot of whitespots on the head? Whats up with it?

If tangs are picking at it, why would it come out?

Toadstools do this from time to time and it's unfortunate that many hobbyists toss it because they think it's dying or dead. Toadstools tend to "shed" every now and then. Give it more flow to help it "shed" and then it will begin to open again. It's odd but hang in there.

I also wanted to add - your coral isn't dead until it's actually dissolving in some areas.

Thanks! It started to open up today! I was really thinking that it was dead,I consider thowing it out! Man Im sure glad i didnt!

Yes, I wish I knew how many people actually threw their leathers out because of this... they "shed" for whatever reason... its like once every two weeks eventually...

I think if you're going to keep a certain coral you should at least do a little reading about the species to make sure that you give it what it needs to thrive. And at least know it's behavior.
