so i noticed on my pink birdsnest today that there appears to be what looks like brown cyano growing on one of the tips.... is this cyano or is a bacterial infection? either way, how do you remedy? thanks....

BTW, coral is in high flow area and polyps are still extended even where the "cyano" is...

I think you are right nemofish, I have only heard of brown jelly assoiated with things like open brains. Not saying it can't happen, just that it is the first I have heard of it.

so, what possibly could it be? should i frag the infected parts to be safe? move the frag to a different area of the tank? im scared for all of my sps now.....

Do you have high flow across it? If not you might be right, there might be some algae starting to grow! I have had that problem before until i crank up the flow!

so you guys just think it is cyano? or something more evil. the weird thing is, my SEIO 820 is pointing almost directly at it! what do you guys think?

How old are your bulbs? And what type? Is it only on this coral or all of them? Where is the coral placed under your light! They are a million factors that will determine the answer to your question!

i got it in september.....all my other sps are doing fine... and the birdsnest is probably closest to the top....about 15" from light.....

I know what you are talking about Nemo.. I had the same problem after an Interceptor treatment (apparently a small cyano outbreak is common after you treat with interceptor)..It went away after a week or so, i just kept the corals as clean as i could using the turkey baster..

so just keep blowing off the coral with a baster? why is only this one coral affected? i am boosting my temp a little as well... it has been at about 79.6 but i think i am going to boost it to 81 or so...... hopefully it is just cyano..... i would hate to have all of my corals infected with something.....

Yep, same thing happened, just a tip of my birdnest got affected..keep doing your everyday maintenance and i can assure you it will go away.

just blew off the coral....most of the brown stuff came off....some of the tissue looks a little white... i cant tell if the tissue is gone(dead) or if it is just the angle of the light....should i give it a little while to see if the polyps and color come out again or should i just go ahead and frag that part?

Personally i would let it go, but use your own judgement, dont go just by what i say. See what happens and if it shows signs of not improving them i would clip it!
