Is Something Wrong With This Cucumber? (Pics)

I have had this cucumber for about 3 months now. He hides under rocks all day and emerges to sift sand all evening. Until recently he was colored dark grey...with numurous "spikes/knobs" projecting from his body.

Over the past couple of days, I have noticed that the "spike/knobs" have grown less pronounced and that his coloration is changing. Appears more green, with small areas of brown discoloration.

Has anybody experienced or observed this? Is this normal change, a sign of illnes, starvation, etc?

I have a feeling its normal I have two, one has really pronounced spikes the other has very small spikes. Cukes sometimes shed, yours may be doing this.
