Is the tank safe for Kuda? Here are my test results.

I was told at seahorse.org to add some frozen mysis shrimp to the tank and test for ammonia after 3 hours or so. I did this and here the results:

pH 8.1
Nitrite between 0 & 0.1 (practically zero)
Nitrate between .1 & .2 (a little hard to tell)
Ammonia (free) 0
Ammonia (total) between 0 & .01

I planned to add my Kuda this Friday.

What do you think?

How long has this tank been set up? If you set it up this morning, and added the shrimp just a few hours later, then your results are inaccurate.

If the tank has been set up and running for several weeks, then you added the shrimp and checked the results, I would say the bio levels are ready for your horses. What are your results after say 6 hours, or overnight? They should remain constant with very little fluctuation.

How is your clean up crew doing? That is what I always use to test the health of my tank. Inverts are very susceptible to high nitrate and ammonia levels. If they can live in the tank, then your horses should be OK.

The tank has been up for about 4 weeks now, and I used plenty of sand from my established reef tank.

I'll test later on tonight as well.
