Is there A blue leather?

my only question with colored softies is are they artificially colored? I know some of them are. I don't have any experience or knowledge about it. Maybe someone knows more?

aquacon says it is not colored and looks blue under a range of different lights.

Also, i know someone that has it in there tank with a typical halide led combination and it is clearly blue. The person that sold him that coral also confirmed it is blue under typical lighting (not all blue or something)

It has a sort of "metallic" blue look about it and is definitely not dyed. Looks great under 16-20k but doesn't really do much under actinics or blue led's.

mine are natural colors not by injection.... they sell some who are injected ..like klyxum .. they are really bright colored in the begin but the vaned into their natural colors morely brown...
(these are NON natural colored corals calling klyxum and they started to get brown after a week or two)

What do they do? Shoot them up with food coloring?

i heard they keep them a time into colored stuff till they got the color... sell them as they are and when its in a tank it becomes brown..; i had two klyxum a while ago and after a couple of weeks they were just normal brown... the ones i have now in the tank blue, olive green, fluo intensive green, pink, blue are all natural colors and they are a while in my tank now and staying on that colors...
My lightning is 4 x T5 39 watt and two led bulbs of 18 watt... so no messing with lot of leds for the colors .. they are just the same with T5 or with extra led.... the only difference i see with led is when the lights are out the fluo is more with only the bulb blue light... (only at early morning and late evening)

That's stupid to dye them....but let me tell you if a yellow natural one came in I would be all over it!

I really got to find a blue one though

yellow like this (it stays yellow (pic2) and its almost two months in my tank) bought this in joe's korallenfarm germany ( a store with rare softs)

first picture is a yellow sarcophyton from Tonga/fidji these are bright yellow but not as bright as in the picture. When they stand on lower base they are not so bright as when they are on a higher place (T5 lightning)

second pic is a yellow sinularia and he is the color as you see on the pic.

I don't think I've ever seen a blue leather coral. (xenia, clove polyps aside) Photoshop, actinic lighting, and dye are often used to promote this color IMO. I'll stand corrected if you can show me a blue leather coral under 10K lighting. Polyps out, not closed and getting ready to shed. Sometimes that waxy layer will take on a blue hue, but that's not the corals natural coloration.

the one i have is a blue sinularia not colored only nature colors and pictures are taken under only T5 (4 x 39watt ATI) not photoshoped either
but like i said i never seen it before in the stores here... i got a frag of someone of a Belgian forum who wanted to get rit of it because it became too large in his tank and mothercoral went to our Belgian zoo.(aquarium departement) He fragged for a few people before...

I'm still not convinced. Replace the two actinics your running with bulbs similar to a 10K and show me another picture. Nice coral though...
FWIW, blue is a color that doesn't show up that often in our tanks. Everybody wants it. If there were actual blue leather corals out there, they would be all over the internet, (for sale/reputable dealers) and you would see a ton of pictures here on RC. This isn't the case unfortunately.

There was a thread like this a couple years back that didn't seem to pan out either. There's a reason why this happened, and I don't think the word "rare" sums it up. It seemed like there was always some sort of excuse. Not my coral, different lighting, etc. With each new post the odds of finding one just kept dwindling away. I've said it once, and I'll say it again, until you can show me a picture of a happy healthy BLUE leather coral under 10K lights exclusively, (polyps out/no actinics) I will always be skeptical. Have a nice day... :)

Actually I would settle for this as well...blueish is good enough to me

I know its like a sea foam color but this is good enough for me :)
