is there a certain type of trash can that has to be used to store water

i am getting ready to do a 12-15 gal water change on my reef tank and i recently bought a "rubbermaid" 20gal trash can so i was wondering if that trash can would be fine to hold water for a couple days at most or is there a certain brand that i need to get.

I use a rubbermaid Grey Brute . It's food grade. The regular rubbermaid trash cans aren't food grade. I guess storing water for a few days might be ok but those trash cans can leach bad stuff in your water. I wouldn't risk it.

I just use a cooler.

Look for the NSF logo on the bottom of the trash can. You can google NSF logo to find out more.

Generally if something is "food grade" you should be fine. I also figure that for holding RODI water, anything that doesn't have metal and is listed for "potable water" should work.
