Is there a goby guru in the house?

That's the pairing that I have and it's quite fun to watch. The purple firefish even shares the burrow with the goby/shrimp. If you do decide to do a group order, I may also be interested depending on where and fish availability.

Liveaquaria.com? Cutting those shipping costs down would be awesome. They are pretty high for just a fish or two...

I'd love to get a hi-fin red banded though... Randall's shrimp shouldn't be too much.

Maybe we can find some more people who are interested, but I wouldn't mind spearheading it. If we could receive the items on a Wednesday, I could drive them up to Knoxville and we could split everything up.

The Randall's shrimp is kinda hard to get these days from liveaquaria and isn't presently listed. p e t s o l u t i o n s has them (a variant, Alpheus yaldwyni) frequently. That's the problem I had, ordering from one vendor who had both items in stock at the same time is a matter of timing.

saltwaterfish.com has both right now i just ordered them with some MTRC people just FYI

Yeah, I came close to ordering from there to get that pair for the Aquapod... But Ashley put the knicks on it... :( I ordered some more coral instead... :D Not from SWF... ;)

Thanks for the info Hurley12. Randall's shrimp can always be gotten at another time I guess. If I can just fine a way to get them to pair up then I will be good to go. I'm going to pick up a piece of PVC pipe and a 45 degree elbow to make an artificial "burrow". I'm going to put the shrimp in a cup and hold him over the pipe so he finds the burrow and I'm going to do the same thing with the goby to make sure they find each other. Probably 3/4" pipe. Put it under the stand bed. Not sure, but sounds like a decent idea.

I know they have the hi fin red banded goby at liveaquaria.com, so that's good enough for me.

So do you guys prefer a different vendor other than liveaquaria.com? I don't care as long as I can get that hi fin red banded goby and maybe a randall's shrimp. I'll be good as long as they are a good vendor and have a good guarantee.

I found it's easiest to add the fish first and then the pistol to wherever the fish hangs out... :) But even so, they'll find each other eventually... :D

Hopefully I don't lose the new one like I did the last time. :(

Really beautiful shrimp, but never came out. Never saw him after I put him in there. I moved the tank so I pulled all the fish out and found him then. Put him in the holding tank and he disappeared into a piece of live rock. Never saw him again after that.

Could you not just put them in a holding tank? Put them both in there and let them find each other in a smaller tank and then move them to the bigger one?

You'll have no problem with them hooking up in a 29. Mine did so placed on opposite sides of my 125.

Hmm sounds good.

I'm hoping to put them in my new 30 gallon. I'm planning on setting it up as a reef tank. Hopefully it will all work out well.

Hey I can add something to this thread.
In a 38 gal I have
Helfrichi firefish from LFS
Yasha hashe goby from DFS LiveAquaria
Red banded goby from DFS LiveAquaria
Trimma goby from LFS
Tangaroa goby from DFS LiveAquaria
Green Banded goby from DFS LiveAquaria

None of these fish pay any attention to any other. Over many years and many tanks I have had wrasses, hawkfish, blennies etc. that I have had to remove from the tank because they became too big or aggressive. Also I don't like fish that have a very skittish behavior like when you walk up to the tank they hide. These gobies don't seem to be afraid of anything I stick in the tank.

Just let me know when you order so I can join you and get my Figure 8 Puffer from LiveAquaria. :)

I have a tiger pistol shrimp and yellow watchman goby. I got the shrimp from Dave for $10 and the goby from Coral reef for $20. They paired up just fine and have provided me much amusement. They never bother any other fish in my tank -- even the little yellow clown goby. I don't keep any other smallish gobies in my tank, though.

Thanks for the info, guys. That really helps quite a bit.

I need to find someone with a shrimp, then. The goby should be fairly easy to find I hope. I'm still debating on the yasha or the hi-fin... not too sure. I'm finishing up mixing the salt right now. Hopefully I'll be adding sand and splitting the rock up between my two tanks tomorrow.

Should be ready for gobies in a few days since I am "quick cycling" with the cured live rock.
