Is there a pistol shrimp in my simp?

I have a marinepure block in my sump that has been getting nicked on occasion. I thought it was just from flow/deterioration. Three days ago I noticed a hole in the Rick for the first time that looks like it had been knocked out from the inside:

Today I noticed a second hole that had been knocked out from the inside:

Is this the work of a pistol shrimp? I know I have one in my tank but think I might have gotten a hitchhiker on some rubble in my sump.

Also - I think I need to get rid of the marinepure. I've heard of them potentially leaching aluminum...if there is a pistol shrimp in it tearing it up I think it definitely has to go.

Sorry; I don't have a good answer for you. Just stopping by to say I have many of the small pistol shrimps that come with Florida live rock, and a tiger pistol. None make holes like that.

Pistol shrimp 'snap' their claw and send a small shock wave that can stun pods that are nearby. But I seriously doubt that the holes you are finding are caused but one.

My best guess is 90% that it's just deterioration.

The holes really look like like the were popped open from the inside. The white powder looking stuff is crumbled marinepure. Do any animals burrow through rock like that?

I have a Caribbean pistol shrimp that has burrowed it's way through my foam wall. Not sure how hard the block is, but I don't think a pistol shrimp is your culprit.
It would've started from the outside and you would probably have seen it before now.

There is definitely something in there! I have three holes know all looking like they were blown out!

I'm going to take the marinepure out and see if anything is in there.

At the very least I want to get it out because of it releasing whatever it is made of into the water column!

Found nothing! I tried to dig into one of the tunnels and it was a dead end. Oh well - still think it was good to get it out of there because something was definitely causing it to pop outwards/decompose. Maybe I had it in too high flow an area
