Is there hope?

NOT looking good!!

NOT looking good!!

Looks like a I have a problem now. The sun coral is declining.

Same water parameter as before. Same feeding schedule. Black sun coral is doing fine.

What's the problem?? :headwally:

Stop feeding for a few days... looks like the tissue is growing faster than the coral is calcifying a skeleton. I had this happen on a colony of Dendrophyllia sp. (the large polyp species we commonly see). The tissue ended up peeling away from the skeleton. It did slowly grow back. After that I stopped feeding large polyp non-photo corals as frequently as I once did. Keep your water parameters stable as usual as it tries to recover. GL!

Once, or twice a week target feeding. Otherwise with general feeding. Have in mind that i have an upstream refugium and a downstream refugium. Therefore I have lots of critter all the time.
However, after the introduction of the black sun coral I noticed that polyps are not open frequently anymore. As mentioned in the thread earlier, after a while the polys stared to open again.
I stared Vodka dosing a few weeks ago. 1ml per day per week, increased to 2ml per day. I did help with my red hair algae problem. But noticing my sun coral I stopped dosing.
I don't think that is the problem, because with 2ml per 250gal it is almost like nothing. Anyhow I stopped dosing.

I spot feed mine thawed out frozen squid. They really extend for me when I do that. Worth a try? What are the calcium levels in the tank?

Ca=430 ppm with Red Sea test kit
At this time I am trying all kind of food. It seems like the responds is getting better,
but still not how it should be .... I guess time will tell.

These Cladopsammia gracilis are a much different animal compared to most Tubastrea sp and Dendrophyllia sp we're used to dealing with. My colonies are still doing quite well, but have no interest in fully expanding all of their polyps. I have one colony very close to a powerhead receiving indirect flow (water is pulled past polyps opposed to pushed towards them) which exhibits full polyp extension on about 1/3 of the colony consistently. The rest I would say have maybe 2/3 - 3/4 polyp extension. I feed mainly Cyclops and chopped P.E. Mysis.
