I was on Ebay, and I was checking out used fish equipment when I ran across a guy listing "Hawaiian Supaman" and "Sunkist" zoas. Is there such a thing?? I couldn't find them on Zoaid. I didn't buy them because I don't know who this guy is or where he got them from, but they were cool looking if they are for real.

The blue's look awsome, I'd guess Fresh import though due to the look of the rock and the few closed grey polyps.

The others look like EE's to me.

the blue's with red skirts look cool. but IMO are just your regular blue zoas with red skirts which may or may not be common in your area.

the 2nd ones are eagle eyes, VERY VERY common

another reason to be careful on ebay. scammers are taking advantage of the name craze. b/c they know some reefers are only interested in the name, and dont know any better.

only get stuff that is WYSIWYG

Yeah, that's why I didn't bid. :( Can you make regular blue zoas change the color of their skirts on purpose then? Like making different color carnations maybe? I was wondering a while ago what would happen if I added food dye to the regular food slurry.

I think I think too much.

actually, thats a perfectly reasonable assumption

but, if you notice the carnations and other plants that you can color up with food coloring in their water. they dont survive as long as normal ones do.

some sellers a couple years ago were accused of trying to inject color into soft corals. they did not survive long at all and i wouldnt even try to copy the practice as it will most likely result in the death of the zoas. this is a BIG time scam you gota watch out for. but i think most scammers find it easier to color up their pictures of corals on photoshop.

only way to get blue zoas with red skirts is get an original morph from someone/somewhere.

I have a friend who had an abundance of gsp (not unlike myself) that tried to dye frags of the gsp blue around easter time as an experiment. According to my friend, it didn't even work and he just ended up with a bunch of gsp frags no one wanted.

They're real, (not to say that the pics may not be color enhanced- although it doesn't look like it to me) but I have both of these in my system right now. The red skirt/blue cntrs that I have are from Solomon Island

Oooooo, pretty! Thank you for posting pics!! You are lucky to have them!

Bah then, no way would I try it if it hurts the zoa's. I have a hard time getting them in the first place up here... no way would I hurt them once I finally get them.

Last time I saw zoa's in Ellsworth, Maine I got all excited and the dude in the LFS was looking at me like, "Whoa Lady, they aren't THAT cool!"

Hehehe

BTW, did anyone have an opinon on whether they would do well overgrowing a piece of equipment that vibrates? Like the tube to the filter of a biowheel, or the tube of the protein skimmer?

anyone know why the have the 'hawaiian' moniker?? last time i checked, it was illegal to take corals from hawaiian waters for commercial sale. not to mention the i never saw any of the nice zoas in hawaii. :D i did, however, see a superman monti lookalike when i was snorkeling in hanauma bay on oahu (bright red polyps and baby blue base-- it was so pretty that i heard the bad angel telling me that a tiny frag won't hurt the colony! luckily, the good side of my conscience kicked in and i just left it alone after wasting about 10 pictures on it.).

Hey Yoshi!

I don't why they have the Hawaiian moniker. I just sort of took it for granted that he named them that because that was where he was. I didn't know commecercial salt stuff was illegal there...? Or maybe he just likes Hawaii? No clue, as usual. I would hope the guy isn't doing anything bad. (I like to be Rogerian in my thinking about others' intentions)

His name was snakamoto on Ebay, maybe we could ask him, just to clear it up?

dunno-- but i just realized why that picture was so familiar looking (the first picture-- blue with red skirt)... that was posted up on www.aquadesignz.com at the beginning of the month or so. either this guy bought them from AD and is selling them already or AD is on ebay. i'm not really sure-- but i'd ask him if that is his picture and if he claims it is, to ask for more shots. :)

I agree i would be very careful about buying from ebay ....Ive gotten ripped off before on some polyps ....
