Is there something wrong with my zoa/paly?

I've had this one for almost three yrs now. When I got it there were only three polyps and now there's well over one hundred. Over the last week or so I've noticed that the face of the polyps is losing its pink color and getting dark.

Here it is a few weeks ago....

And here it is tonight....

I did notice these white specs on the stalks....

My parameters are....
Temp 76.4
Ph 8.30
Alk 9.6 dkh
Ca 430
Mg 1380 (this was raised recently from 1200 over a 5 day period)
N03 2-5
P04 .02
Sg 1.026

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated and if anyone knows what this is called that would be great too.

Thanks for the info! After looking it up briefly it appears that's what it is. Luckily I have some furan2 in the house already. I've used hydrogen peroxide in the past on zoas does anyone know if that will work?

Those look like little feather dusters. I have them on some of my polyps too. They wouldn't be the cause of the polyps losing color. They don't bother the polyps.

I have a lot of experience with zoa pox and furan-2. Zoa pox doesn't make polyps lose color. It makes polyps close up and die. You can dip with furan just to be sure but I don't think that's going to help you in this situation.

I would check you water chemistry or if you have done anything different in the past weeks.

I have great pe with them and no signs of shrinkage. Here are 3 things that have changed in the tank over the last 2 weeks....

* Increased by adding an additional power head
* Raised my Mg from 1200 to 1380 over a 5 day period
* My Alk did jump a little to over 10 from 8.4 and I am slowly bring it back down.

It could be the Mg increase. Mg does have an effect on polyps and their color. Usually it brings out the color of the polyps though. Maybe when you added the Mg it went on the polyps before it could be diluted enough?

Its more than likely the zoapox its not good to have and its more than likely going to kill that entire colony....its not ur mag or temp, not saying those things dont effect the zoas, but ur picture is pretty cut and paste of what the problem is.

I picked up some Furan2 last night and will do a dip tonight. I'm not 100% convinced that its zoa pox since all of the polyps are still completely open.
