Is there such a thing as too thick for acrylic?

I am getting a qoute for a tank. 72x30x24 =225 gal. Eurobraced Acrylic.

The builder will make the front and sides 1" thick for no charge, the rest 3/4.

Is that too much? I read somewhere 1 inch begins to distort the view.

James at Envision Acrylics is building two 280 gallon sumps and a 96 x 42 x 32 Aquarium for me. The Aquarium will be made out of 1 inch acrylic. He is great to work with.
