is this 9010 junk or is it just mine?

That's why I bought mine, space, as well as the reputation of tuzne..
But I also found out if you rub this roger guy the wrong way you get zip for CS from tunze..I've been reading some other complaints and it look like he only deals with the ones he feels like..It's his job to answer posts, it's what he gets paid to do! I also here a lot of people rave about the CS from here...well, if you buy something that don't work the company gives you a warranty and sends you a new part this happens every day with every company for all types of products. Now I have a "gripe" I suppose my sump was still to small when I put it in a 2000 gallon system or is that going to be another excuse?

smatter...I could...but here is the reason I don't....I have the skimmer set up high enough that when I hit the "feed" button on my AquaController and the sump fills up another 2 inches the skimmer doesn't see the change in water level...so I can just leave it skimming away...If I remove the riser kit...then when I shut down the return pump...the skimmer fills up enough that is starts to overflow the cup/ extractor quickly...

Also for me...space was the issue...to get the 9015 cup out from under the stand I had to hold my mouth just right...then I normally ended up spilling some of the skimmate...the scecimen cup slides right out no hastle...

the extractor is just so much easier than the cup for me...and I think it is actually easier to clean that the cup...

Oh...and also I am using a magnet mount...but the diameter of the cup meant I had to have the entire unit sitting up very high to allow the cup to clear the lip of the tank...another reason I went with the extractor...

and the last and most important...I travel a lot and leave for 5 or 6 days at a time and leave my tanks for my 85 year old parents to take care of...so I have everything as automated as possible...they know to feed the fish...they get into the freezer...grab a ziplock bag of portioned food...hit the feed button on my AquaControllers and throw in the food and walk away...no hastle, no fuss...they (and I) don't have to worry about then turning off and on pumps, etc...OR emptying out skimmer cups!

HA...guess that is enought reasons for me to have it set up that way! LOL!

when I took mine apart I didn't see one.

and that hole in the back, is it normal for water flowing out?

The hole in the back is supposed to be there, and the water is supposed to flow out.

Since we are on the subject of the 9010 I'd thought I would try to slip in a question of my own. And that is: What causes the drain hole at the top (the one that is supposed to have water running out of it) to have a varying amount of water coming out? IOTW, I noticed that the first time I disassembled and cleaned the skimmer that the water was coming out at a trickle after I re-assembled and got it back up and running. Lately, I have noticed that the water comes out with alot more force and as a result of that it's annoyingly noisy.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

For impeller shaft- Yes, see pages 78 and 82 of the manual for pictures, 79 and 83 for english translations. Loose impeller, maybe?

I only get significant flow from the back hole if my 9010 isn't perfectly level. I use a gladware container similiar to to Greg to raise the unit up a bit, but don't have the magnet. I probably should, or at least use the suction cup.

This was from my tank last year - I sold the tank and the skimmer. This was probably a week or so of work. I actually just ordered a second 9010 last week.

Trust me, it smelled worst than it looked!

I received a part from Roger about 5 days ago (Roger, Thanks for sending it so fast BTW) So far it's seems to be working better but still
not really skimming close to what I see in other posts..when I changed the part I cleaned it really good so I was going to give it a few more days to see how it go's..at least now it looks like it wants to work but still I have <100 Ml of skim in 5 days (closer to 50M) if it don't work I'll try a mesh mod..so far my opinion still stands on this skimmer...not sure what I'm going to do with it just yet, but I have a few ideas..

I picked up a used 9005, with nothing in the tank (just sand) it has 100ml since Sunday night. Its a 55g. Just thought I would pop in.

Glad to hear it's working out for you I'm still under 50 over 5 days now..I'm thinking about looking for a used coralife SS65 or a Jebo 65 just to prove a point to myself.

you're into Car audio huh? I did that for the first 20 years of my work life...mostly high end, show cars and custom work..

yeah I had a full ride from Fosgate 10 years back. subs, amps, wiring, components.... Got carjacked and lost it all and decided it was not worth it anymore. I still love a good sounding car or home.

Well, I stumbled upon this forum and thread as I had narrowed my skimmer search down to the 9010. I have a homemade sump/refugium, and my skimmer section is 8x12 with the first baffle in my bubble trap being 12". The Tunze was the only one I could find with a footprint that would fit.

RonC - please post an update on how that new part is working out. I really don't want to empty and rebuild the baffling in my sump just so I could put a ER or Octo skimmer in there.

After reading this thread I was a little hesitant to go with a 9010 but I went ahead and pulled the trigger on one anyway. What I've noticed is that you have to trust them when they say you have to let this thing break in.

I basically sat there fiddling with this thing for 2-3 hours trying to figure out why the bubbles couldn't even break the plane of where the skimmer cup started. I went to bed a little frustrated and dejected but woke up the next morning to see that there was around 50 ml of skimmate in what was roughly 6 hours time.

After two and half days with this thing, it's pulled just a hair over 200 ml of crud. I wish there were a little more adjustment options but I suppose Tunze knows what they're doing and judging from what I've seen so far it does work and fairly well on top of that.

Just a side note, this thing seems to be pretty finicky with water movement. If there is too much turbulence in the water it's sitting in or it pulls in air, you're going to know right away cause it'll stop foaming properly.

It works better but not as good as what I'm reading from others.
since I put the new part in it's only pulled about 50ml of skim..

I at least get foam in the riser tube but still it don't seem to produce
skim..so one more time, I brought it to my buddy's coral farm and ran it
in one of his sumps ang got the same results...I tried a wet skim a dry skim and yes, still the same thing no skim...

remember I said it seemed cheap? yesterday I took it apart to clean it inside the unit you have what looks like a lift tube for a UGF attached to an air line it was glued in place with a drop of ABS glue
with a point of attachment the size of a small Stomatella snail..so guess what happened..yeah, that air lift looking tube was attached
when I pulled the pump to clean it... Like I said from the start of this thread, All I expect is a little quality for $350...

I just got a RBTA the other day and as I was looking for more information I came across a site with someone using a seaclone
and loved it.. in 3 days she got more skim with a skimmer that cost
