is this 9010 junk or is it just mine?

It is too bad you are having such a bad experience with your skimmer. Your situation is definitely not the norm with Tunze skimmers. I hope it starts producing for you.

I got the 9015 I order from Phil yesterday. I took a good look at it in the areas I heard discussed on this forum. I found that the air line fitting that goes into the venturi was 3/4 blocked was excess plastic. Was easily fixed but a little disheartening.
I also noticed that the air inlet silencer tube was not glued to the housing, I didn't know it was supposed to be so I didn't pay much attention to it. Will this not being glued effect the performance?

Thank you, But I'm not so sure it's out of the norm for tunze..
the more threads I read here the more I hear about things
not working...pumps with clips that just fall apart skimmers
not skimming...or other things just not working...

Had I bought a $75 or $100 skimmer I can say, you get what you
pay for...But the 9010 falls in line (price wise) with a 2 or 3 foot down draft or beckett skimmer..

I don't think it will hurt the performance, for me it was just
another quality issue...Wish I could be more help.

If you are talking about skimmers your experience is most definitely unusual. As for the newly released Nano Stream line, yes there have been problems with the plastic, but they are being addressed.

I get around 100ml a day of skimate on a 125 with a 25 gallon sump from a 9010. 9 medium sized fish, and around 40 softies and LPS. I also run 2 filter socks and carbon and phos-ban and it was skimming more than that before I added the socks. My water quality has gone up greatly after adding this skimmer.

How much skimate are you expecting on a 37 gallon tank with a 10 gallon sump, roncgizmo? hows your bio-load?

Sorry Smather But I'm not so sure this is out of the norm...
I scanned the tunze form for about 15min and came up with
a few more skimmer issues.

My bio load is high...5 fish, 30+ snails, a hand full of inverts and wall to wall coral (a ton of softies, some LPS and a few SPS) plus, 40 pounds of LR and 50 pound of live sand.

what I was expecting out of this skimmer
was to work better then the air stone skimmer I was using until
I bought this one...The air stone skimmer gave me a thick sludge
and gave me a lot more skim in volume..The 9010 gives me less a lot less and when I do get something out of it, it like water

Thanks for all those links RONGISM. Tunze has really had the wool pulled over the worlds eyes. The worst part is that they have been getting away with it for decades.

WOW Sarcasm, listen, if you don't like my point of view you don't need to get personal..you made a comment about the skimmer issues being out of the norm. well I researched that and found it's not 100% true!
the fact of the mater is I have a 9010 that don't work as good as a $17 skimmer...that in itself I find to be a joke! fact 2, what costumer service did I get for my $350? I got a pump cover that helped just enough to tease me into thinking this might work after all. I also got no follow ups to see if it helped...NOTHING! if you want to buy into "it's a 40 year old company so they must know what they are doing" that's all on you.
How long has Marineland been around? would you buy a sea clone?
I don't know about you, But I don't like to waste money..and when you compare $350 skimmers it's not like comparing $100 skimmers.

As far as I'm concerned a $350 skimmer should work. if you want to charge like the big dogs work like a big dog..I could of gotten better results from a coke bottle.

Perhaps its time to move on RONCGIZMO. I can't blame Roger for not wanting to deal with your bias. His job is to help people fix their products, not deal with a person that wants a pulpit.

You said you don't like your Tunze, now sell it to someone else and find a new product.

If Roger did his JOB in the first place (as in responding to the fist post in this thread here or via PM) this thread would of been long gone...
And his job here is CUSTOMER SERVICE and that means not to hide when someone is unhappy with the product...

BTW jeff, are you the same worley that sent this email out of the blue?

Attitude

Don't be a ***** and bash what is considered a quality product. If you can't get a tunze skimmer to work, you are NEVER going to get any other skimmer to work.

User error

Plain and simple, This is far from a quality product...in fact it's not even in the same ball park IMO.

My 9015 was setup for only 12 hours and it was skimming. I rinsed it in a very mild vinegar bath before setting it up to get rid of any production oils. So far this has been the easiest to use skimmer I have owned.

Also, I read all those links listed and all I saw customers with problems and Roger being very quick to help. Not sure why your post never got answered. I did notice that none of the links were titled "9010 junk or is it just mine", maybe that had something to do with it.

Rum, Thanks for asking...

I received a part from Roger about 5 days ago (Roger, Thanks for sending it so fast BTW) So far it's seems to be working better....
l

Roger is doing his job. You even seem to think so when you are being calm. Now get off your soapbox and move on. You are simply saying the same thing over and over again. Everyone is able to read your opinion, they don't need to read the same thing 5 times to understand how you feel.

Ron,

This is sponsor paid forum and really not a place for you to grind you axe with Tunze. Roger provides some of the best customer service I've ever read about (and experienced some time ago). I'd imagine if I was approached by someone in a manner that you are posting on here, I'd take issue with it and treat you in kind.

Adjust your approach within this forum or excuse yourself to the general forums to get your questions answered.

Mike, that was tried on the fist page.

is this 9010 junk or is it just mine? <-- This was a question not a statement

I get some foam in the chamber but it don't even try to go up the neck.

the air adj. seems to do nothing (I did check the line)

I get nothing coming out from the output tube.

I get micro bubbles coming from the bottom of it.

and to add insult to it all I had a Red Sea air stone skimmer (90)
I paid 17 bucks for (and I bought it new) that worked so
good I had to empty the cup every other day sometimes
a day and a half....

It's in a low flow fuge/sump My return pump is pushing maybe
300GPH on a good day. The tank is a 37 gallon with a lot of stock
the sump/fuge is a 10 gallon tank with 3 glass baffles..

(That was a statement on what I was dealing with)

Any idea why this thing don't work? <--- I'm asking for help here

I'm about to put it in the fireplace!<---expressions of frustrations

I bought this product from a sponsor and when the product has issues and the customer is frustrated the sponsor ran. this skimmer is the most expensive part on my tank and the only one I can't get to work..it sound like you're telling me it's ok for the sponsor to give a member the shaft... I still don't have a working skimmer!

Yea...that's exactly what I said

And you wonder why people wont help you.

let's give ONCGIZMO a break. He may not be the easiest guy to deal with but I do believe a sponsor, retailer, or manufacturer should stand behind their product and assist customer as much as possible regardless of the attitude. If the intention is to smear the product, that's another story though.
I understand how hard it is to deal with people and sometimes things get out of hand easily.
Let's be civil now.

Thanks Viodea, My intent is not to smear anything but I'm not the type to hold back if asked. I'm actually very easy to deal with when a company's step up and at least trys to do something with out pulling teeth. I don't think my first post here was out of line for how I felt at the time. but the more time that go's by the more frustrating it becomes. Kind of like being on hold for an hour when you call the phone company or AOL Who ever... it runs you dry!

I'll repeat. This is a sponsor paid forum.

You announced over a month ago that you were taking the skimmer back.
Maybe you should do that (or should have done that) and move on.

Oh and posting Private Messages from any member of this board is not a smart move.
